I recognized them on site as such, because clearly the caps are bluish. But they aren't bluing further when damaged, and the gills are lighter brown than usual -- they're more agrocybe color rather than chocolate brown or darker.
Science, Just curious whether you are actually in NYC or one of the peripheral counties I had very good luck in Westchester historically it’s just not convenient anymore G

Found 8 today that I brought home, beautiful and stinky specimens 4 others I could have brought back but left due to over dryness/bugs eating half the cap/ preservation of the spot. About a half dozen pins coming up I could see, probably more under the debris. Not finished yet!
Season is winding down, but still producing. Wild season this year ladies and germs. Still, not complaining

I made an interesting discovery today... so this patch i have been picking produces some funky sporeless fruits that up until now i was sure were ovoids. I recently caught a specimen that was dropping spores and to my disbelief they were a reddish brown color. At this point im no longer sure these are pvoid and think they may be p weilii or something similar. Gonna have to get these under a scope.

These were from one of the peripheral counties. And yeah according to (iirc) Gary Lincoff, people have been finding them in Westchester county since the 70s at least. They're also common in NYC proper. I live in NYC, although I've been quarantining outside.

Those Are Just Sterile Specimens Of Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata.
Edit: Psilocybe Sp Most Of The Time Produce Dark Purplish Prints, But Can Sometimes Produce Blackish Colored Prints, They Can Also Produce Reddish/Rust Colored Prints In Rare Occasions.

Yeah but in the second picture, look at how thick the flesh of the cap is, and also on the right side how the 'grain' (in the wood sense) of the cap runs from the center to the edge. Psilocybe caps don't have that kind of linear grain. I could definitely be wrong, that's just how I'm reading it.

These pictures are from Maryland. Found along a river bank in wood debris that have accumulated in dense bunches mixed with leaves. Grass was always around. Mycelium growth very rhizomorphic. Mushrooms blue within 30 minutes of being disturbed. If anyone with a microscope is interested in confirming ID for me, I will happily share a couple of prints. (Note: most of the prints are not as big or thick as the one pictured.)

And these have a 50/50 chance of being their descendants flourishing in NJ. If not Westchester then PITT.

Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata Has Adnate Attached Gills. The Mushrooms Pictured Have Adnate Attached Gills.
Pluteus Cervinus Has Free Gills.
Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata Can Be Meaty & Thick The Same Way Cubes Can Be Meaty & Thick, It's Genetics. I've Seen Plenty Of Cube Caps That Are Meaty & That Crack Just Like The One In Pic #2.
Also, You Can't Mistake That Bruising, I've Seen What Blue Staining Pluteus Sp Look Like & To Me They Don't Stain The Same Color As Psilocybe's.

Don't need a microscope to id those lol. I'm not a verified identifier but I'm 100% sure you got what you were looking for. Have fun and be safe.

Yes, the last ones I ate were burn your mouth and have you on in 10 minutes potent when fresh. Beastly, lovely, surely the Lord's work. A blessing to behold and a hell of a good time. Something special about fresh late season ovoids.

I made tea with about a gram. Drank half the tea and was out of it for an hour. Definitely the strongest ovoids I’ve ever had. Very strong body high with minimal visuals.
I’m pretty sure the ovoids that start off with the black pins are significantly more potent than ones that don’t

Any thoughts on how much longer the season might last in the Mid-Atlantic? It's going to be in the low 90s for a day with day time temps in the high 80s for the next 3 days. Could that mark the end of the season?
