Ya'll! I did it! I've finally found them! Someone has been snooping around in there, everything is trampled, and pulled up, but, there were two perfect ovoids and 2 pins. I was so excited I was trembling! Thank you all for all the pictures and advice you spit out on here. Fuckin love this thread!

Ugh went to a spot and 3/4 of the fruits were too far gone. Still managed to fill my bag, but pretty disappointed to see so many wasted mushrooms. Got some meaty cluster balls. Went down to the river and found a few, also too far gone

I like how we’ve gone from it snowing not far from DC two days ago to a potential hurricane developing off the east coast this weekend

This season is crazy. But I only have the last one to compare. They're pretty much everywhere but I've also walked miles in some places with perfect looking habitats and there's absolutely none.
My largest finds:

Entering a contest for a biggest wine cap:

Also:

Is anyone still finding morels in MD? I have picked quite a bit in April but I'm not seeing any recently.

I have not seen a single morel this year. I often say if I were hunting any other mushroom but ovoids I’d probably be complaining about only finding those fucking ovoids

Same here.....probably a couple dry ounces that were too far gone, had to dig under the foliage in order to get the healthy ones

Thats odd morels grow in the floodplains here alongside ovoids. Usually see them first cause they stick out like a sore thumb. My wife wont eat them, says they look like freddy krugers nutsack

I've noticed if you find wine caps - you'll find Ovoids. They usually grow near or around Dryads but this year it's wine caps.
Anyone else finding the same growth pattern?

Haha, A friend of mine who's new to mushroom hunting came along with me last hunt. He told me to look for the ovoids while he finds the wine caps, it was a strategy that worked well, especially with all the tiny ovoids hidden near the wine caps!

This hobby is turning into a sickness. I don't really have the time but I've been making the time to go out everyday, even if it's only for an hour.

Psilocybes are fun but wait until you've harvested morels, chicken of the woods, and a few other choice edibles.
You turn a hobby where you occasionally sample your finds into one where you can make some of the most amazing things you've tasted, every time you have good luck hiking. It becomes the icing on the cake.

I did manage to find some oyster mushrooms last week. It was my first time eating any wildly harvested mushroom. They definitely tasted better than my botched attempt at growing them lol I would be over the moon if I managed to find some morels. The only time I’ve ever seen one in the wild was in Mexico City, at the anthropology museum.

In MD recently I walked a mile up one side of a creek and found 100 ovoids. I walked back on the other side and found 5. Either that side is no good or someone was picking ahead of me. I also have a very similar habitat on another water source nearby with absolutely nothing. It's hard to figure out what makes a spot perfect so I guess the strategy is to hunt a lot of spots around peak time to find new ones.
Here are my morel counts for the past 7 weeks in this area: 0, 2, 5, 70, 20, 20, 5
Sadly, I think it's over. There are still dryad's saddle and oyster around. It seems like forever until chanterelles.
