Guys....with your ovoid finds...do you notice that the wetter they are the less blue staining appears?

Yep. When they dry out, they turn blue, then shrivel up and turn black.  Now, nice and healthy pins can be anywhere between cream colored all the way to deep black. Black caps usually are stronger, meatier, and all in all bigger and come from wood chips.

Ok, guys.  LOOK AT THESE NIPPLES! I'm 3.5 hours away from Sussy and it would be impossible for the Sussy phenotype to have naturally spread here.  It's also extremely unlikely that this is transplanted just because of the distance and obscure location.  Opinions are needed.  Also, look at the cute little deer. He's just so cute.

oh ok, yea the ones i recently found were dark brown/black caps very wet and basically no visible blue staining. I'm just a bit concerned with mixing up ovoid with Galerina Marginata...after drying out the ovoids from yesterday the blue has almost disappeared from them is that normal?

I'm stoked with this new patch.  I've searched this area plus 5 miles N and S along this water for years. Wouldn't you know, along the edge of a flood plain that is not ideal at all, there's a random patch of cut wood chips along the edge of a flood plane wood pile. I looked at it and from 15 feet away I saw damn near white patch where something had dug through the mulch. I smelled the mycelium and knew they had to be close.  There were cute little cream ones growing by themselves behind me in the grass and the beefy ones were 4 feet to my right.  In the pic where they're growing along the log, if it's a pin, it's still there soaking up this r***.

New spot turned out to be a dud, checked my first spot and found that all of them had dried up, but about 50 yards up the bank found a few meaty ones. Glad the rain wasn't too bad, but sadly now it's snowing :mad2::sad:

Usually pretty spindly near me, but today I found a 17-er. Great year for morels and now for ovoids and other species as well

You can smell a patch from a distance? I've heard a few people say that.

What do y'all do, if anything, to mitigate the possibility of picking up ticks (while you're trudging around on a hunt)?

Permethrin on the boot tops, sock tops, pant cuffs and waist.  Carry a long stick to push the brush away.  Take weirdly big steps to avoid brushing against undergrowth too much.  Wear light pants and check them every few minutes.  Shower as soon as you get home.

It's worked for me for the past few years.

Sometimes.  I actually picked up a piece of mulch and smelled that and knew that fruits were close. The mycelium smells different than mycelium of other species or I may have just convinced myself of that.  There are times when you'll smell them before you see them. I may be wrong but i think it's when they're wet and usually right after a rain. I hate the smell lol. The smell legit makes my teeth hurt.  It sucks.  I got 3 fresh fruits waiting for me to gather the balls to eat them.

You are not a man until you pull a tick from your ballsack.

Got a few pics today, it snowed so i went out and picked as much as I could in fear of a wet freeze tonight.
