So I'm new to this and just got my first haul and am looking for some advice. Do you guys spore print all your mushrooms for identification or just visually inspect them and print a couple?
Also, any advice on best practices for cleaning them up? It rained a ton here yesterday and most of the stems are covered with some decent caked on mud.

If you are new then go for it, you get spore prints and you can be sure they are all good. Be careful there are deadly lookalikes namely galerina species. They wont bruise but you musht be careful because if you were to place a galerina in a bag of ovoid the bluing could transfer on the galerina. Make sure you examine every specimine you collect. Not uncommon to find deadly lookalikes growing right next to actives

Beautiful haul Welcome to the club!

Ahhhh yeahh, floods yesterday didn't hurt this patch. I was real worried about that. Drove through 3"=4" water yesterday in a little 4-door sedan. If anything these have been beefed up. I found more than the other day + they are bigger, too. I left a lot of pins for another day's flush just like a couple days ago in order to have today's flush. Third flush incoming in a few days or so, and this is 2-3 weeks behind last year's first flush. Probably more to come.

They look like ovoids. I've wondered the same about the ones in my area, the nipply variety. They are almost a perfect mix of liberty caps and Virginia/ Maryland ovoids at first glance/ examination. Seems like a good bit of work could be done in studying the different phenotypes with these ovoids in general.

Hey guys. Finally finding my first ones today located in ohio. It seems like they may been starting recently. I found a few large wavy cap ones and a a lot of ones about the size of a half dollar.
I left a few pins, and just wondering if weathers right, how many days until they flush again. I would guess 3 days, or is it more? Lots of mycelium everywhere. Even places I didnt see oviods but I'm certain they were it

I mean we could do the math, 2 more have went down (that are 5.2%) since my last post. From my understanding that malt liqqy is around 10-13%. 4x 11.5% is less than 22x 5.2%. Lol help

TheNewguy0323 said: Whats going on everyone, Hunter for 3 years now in the Southeastern part of PA. I was wondering as I havent had any luck in 3 years, this year im going to do my part to really explore new areas. I have seen a bunch of posts about ideal habitat and have a good few places in mind. Real quick though, its been COLD at night here 39-34 degrees with highs topping out at 60. we had a few days of rain but it was cold rain like 42. The spots that normally sprout shrooms (not of ovoids but just in general) have been duds. Am I a bit to early you think? also Congrats to everyone who has found, I hope this year I strike some luck. I swear if I wasnt unlucky I wouldnt have any luck at all
There's a "colored" clay in a creek in that area. Go there.
