It never used to bother me until I got hit two times!
I didn't take direct hits, but I got the shit zapped out of me badly!
I'm now deathly afraid of it, and will not go out when thunderstorms are in the forecast.
Maybe the rain will stop, and I can go later on today.
The fastest and most effective method to start a new patch, involves transplanting a portion of yhe mycelium that has pins. You want to keep the mycelium network intact. I do this by removing as large of a section as I can without distributing the pins. Place these clumps of pins and myc in a cardboard tray. Take the tray and place it into a new mulch bed that gets adequate water, heat, and shade. This will allow you to have instant results as compared to waiting and entire season for stembutts. Good luck brother
Well, there wasn't but one pin and I picked it.
I got some phat stem butts and a load of myc though, so that wont work?

Stembutts work, just a slower method compared to transplanting pins you get f fruits right away

Not too bad for about an hours worth of looking around in a new spot. Lots of pins coming in also

Whats going on everyone, Hunter for 3 years now in the Southeastern part of PA. I was wondering as I havent had any luck in 3 years, this year im going to do my part to really explore new areas. I have seen a bunch of posts about ideal habitat and have a good few places in mind. Real quick though, its been COLD at night here 39-34 degrees with highs topping out at 60. we had a few days of rain but it was cold rain like 42. The spots that normally sprout shrooms (not of ovoids but just in general) have been duds. Am I a bit to early you think? also Congrats to everyone who has found, I hope this year I strike some luck. I swear if I wasnt unlucky I wouldnt have any luck at all

What would be the best way to keep it alive and growing?
If you haven't already, IMMEDIATELY soak some corrugated cardboard & remove one of the flat sides to expose the inner "ribs"; squeeze out the excess moisture and sandwich your stem butts/myc up with the cardboard rib-side-in. Place the whole thing in a Ziploc or other container to slow down evaporation.
Then soak some hardwood chips overnight, let drain for several hours, unwrap your myc and add the chips and place in a protected, shady spot outdoors ASAP.
Or keep your FAE and myc:chips ratio high and continue to expand your spawn indoors.
Just don't forget about the myc and leave it in a Ziploc for two weeks, like writing this post literally just reminded me I did with some shiitake. It wasn't pretty.

If you haven't already, IMMEDIATELY soak some corrugated cardboard & remove one of the flat sides to expose the inner "ribs"; squeeze out the excess moisture and wrap your stem butts/myc up with the cardboard touching the rib-side.

Heck yeah, thanks for the tips guys, I'm going to make a nice bed tomorrow.
Right now the bag of myc is out in my greenhouse.
Could I just use a big old rubber made tub, and keep it in my greenhouse, instead of making an outdoor bed.
I tried this one other time before, and the slugs and snails ate all my myc, and the few pins that tried to fruit.
My yard is infested with every bug and vermin that you can imagine!
