What's up ovoid peeps!!  :bigblunt:

Looking forward to the start of things.  It's right around the corner at this point.  Def gonna be an interesting year, as long as the precip continues to be as good as it's been.  Looking forward to all the post and pics from everyone in the thread.

For those asking about indicators.  One thing I've kinda gone by is the total temp of the day.  Basically when the high + low = 120-130 for about 10-14 days.  Also, like Relic already mentioned, it's just the overall growth in the floodplains.  The garlic mustard and celandine will be up, there will be small leaves on the trees and the nettle isn't too much of a bother yet.  One of the best indicators is the dryads saddle tho.  It usually appears 7-14 days before the ovoids do and also grows in the same habitat.

I was out yesterday. Saw the nettle coming up already. One spot I have to hunt is covered with dryad saddle but I havemt checked it yet. My favorite spot doesnt have any dryad yet as it's still a young forest flood area.

If you can deal with getting poked and stabbed, I have discovered that chestnut pods are an incredible substrate.

Eat the chestnut and put the pods in your mulch. They are sharp as fuck, so they may help discourage slugs too.

Was just thinking about you! Was gonna shoot a PM at you if you didn't show up soon. Looking forward to another Spring season. Seems like the Fall season has gone by the way side. Anyway, hope you are well and hope to get together with you again sometime this season.
I don't think we had any of those crazy 8-10" rain storms that devastated the flood plains over the winter so, maybe this will be a good season.:mushroom2:

What's the blooming order of things between black and yellow morels and ovoids?

Morels usually pop about a week before ovoids

Mine either. The mycelium is growing rapidly but they aren't growing anything more exciting yet.

With last year's flooding wiping my spot out, I've been scouting possible new locations.  Recently I believe I found where my debris pile ended up.

Even with this dry spell, I found some promising looking mycelium.  http://.  I also found these 2 little guys . . I know neither where Ovoids but it still got me excited.

I threw some spawn in sawdust into egg cartons, wet them down and then sealed in Saran Wrap for three weeks. This was the result
