I had 18 grams fresh and was told that's about .75 grams dried. And 100% a level 5 experience.

If anything this quarantine shit had made it so there aint much else to do but hunt, its a great way to kill time and get excercise.
Usually 1:10 ratio dry to fresh, you took the equivalent of 2g dry, however mushrooms are much more potent when wet IME
Sometimes the best way to trip is in nature with no scale, just eating the ones that look tasty

Does bluing on wood with obvious rhizomorphs mean ovoid for sure? Found under knotweed, no fruits but the color caught my eye. This is my second year looking, no luck yet but I’m hoping this season lasts a while, last year was a bad time to get in.

No that bluing is not from psilocybe mycelium. even if you do have a log colonized with myc there is no way to know if it will fruit or not. It can be hard to find new patches but this time of year is great because you can get a clear view of the ground before the plants conpletely take over

The blue staining is caused by a different species of fungi most likely Chlorociboria aeruginascens, you can test bluing mycelium with a reagent kit to confirm it is ovoid mycelium, however psilocybe ovoideocystidiata's mycelium will be a bright white color until damaged and may turn blue. The bluing is more comon on mycelium that is producing fruitbodies, in that scenario it wouldnt be much use.
A better indicator that the mycelium you are handling is ovoid mycelium is by smelling it. Once you have smelled and tasted ovoids you will be able to differentiate between ovoid myc and the mycelium of other mushrooms that grow near ovoids.
When you go hunting dont limit your performance by relying only on your vision. Your nose can be a much more powerful tool for finding psychedelic mushrooms.

I'm in DC and haven't had any luck (yet). From what I'm understanding, look for box elder, Japanese knotweed, and flood plains correct?

Could you try and describe the smell? Google is giving conflicting results and plenty of people have brought it up here but mostly in a "if you know, you know" sort of way. Damn koods that's pretty wild. Definitely not what I saw, I was trying not to disturb that little wood pile too much but the staining was more on the wood, not the visible mycelium. Just got a little excited I think.

Looking in the floodplains is great and all but i advocate for new hunters to search mulch beds first, it is easier to spot ovoids on mulch than in the natural habitat

I thought the same thing first time I saw that blue wood haha. It is hard to describe the smell of ovoids but too me they smell like sweet mushrooms with a mild flour smell. It is just one of those things you gotta experience. That being said I would still recommend you smell the mushrooms and mycelium you find even if they are not ovoids, so you can get used to the different smells, some can be similar but they all have subtle differences. It would be a cool experiment to put different myceliums in cups and try and guess the species. maybe I can do it with the wife, she has a good sniffer and knows all about smelling mycelium lol

Break a leg.
I took a trip last year down to Virginia and Maryland cause i couldnt wait for the season to start, it was worth it tho, enjoyed our harvest on the beach.
I will drop some info for you noobs, if you go to a website like mushroom observer many of the posts list the general location or even exact gps cordinates where mushrooms are found. I have been wanting to vist a amusement park in pa that has ovoids growing in all the landscaping however it is far from where i live. For some of you it might be right down the road...
Don't waste your time at that amusement park. They changed all the flower beds. Went there last year because I live about half an hour away. There was 1 old wooden plant bed with 2 caps growing out of it. Those flower beds used to be everywhere in that park but not anymore.

This is interesting. Last weekend I was walking through a good habitat and could have sworn I smelled ovoids. I searched and didn't find anything. There was too much celandine in the area.
I wasn't sniffing mycelium though. Do you think it's possible to smell them just being in the general area?
I shrugged it off but maybe it's worth a second look today.
