Wow, can't wait to start finding those fatties like that. Don't know I've found any that large here even in a mulch pit. Almost certain I haven't. Maybe half that size around here.

It's all about the substrate, fruiting conditions, and maturity of the myc. Pretty much all ovoids have the potential to get that large under perfect conditions.

I would've left a good portion all of those to grow unless extenuating circumstances dictated otherwise...like a very hard freeze which is probably coming for you Saturday night.

And you didnt ask for it, but I'm gonna give you another pc of advice...carry a plastic bag along with your paper keeper bags. When you pull up a fruit, pinch off the stem butt and dirt and put that in the plastic bag, then put your keepers in a different bag.
Your fruits will be much MUCH cleaner and less gritty after drying.

The freeze hit last night. Thats the only reason I picked some of them. Hit 26 last night and I struggled with taking them or leaving them. Honest, it was a moral dilemma.

I get it. I'd be lying if I said I never picked fruits like those before and I know it's going to hard freeze again in the Susq valley tomorrow night.

Supposed to rain today into tonight and get warmer going into Sunday and Monday. Hopefully that means a nice solid flush and plenty of pins to be left behind.

Totally need this advice. I need to do that more because the dirt gets old. I also transplant the stems to spread the love. I try to leave the mycelium but as we all know these hardy buggers often pull out more than we want.

you can't ask that, please read the forum rules.
rule #4
4. Do not ask about current finds in your area. These posts have been flooding the forum for years. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for and its been raining, you just might find some.

I like to think the Ovoids are constantly checking this thread to see where they should fruit next

I'm a firm believer that they know we are talking about them and they sense us when we hunt them. I'm not so sure its me hunting them as much as them finding me and allowing me to have them. Not sure if I'm the hunter or hunted.
