Inspired by the pins i went to vist a few spots and found some mature fruits.

This first one that caught my eye was growing from some regular fescue lawn grass. The rest were growing from dune grass and some had probably been there for a few days. Lots of pins cant wait to go back

Nothing fruiting yet from any of the man made patches in central Ohio started last summer. I think I am going to head down to south east Ohio Thursday to check on the place I originally found the ovoids and also maybe go across the river into west Virginia and check out some places scoped out on the google maps that looks promising.

Man, for some reason these are so hard for me to identify. Their appearance really varies. I'm out there often though, hopefully I get lucky soon.
Is it possible to grow them if you can get some spores?

Found some wine caps today along with a few agrocybe (little bastards) but NO Ovoids yet Sauteed the wine caps with some onions in garlic & butter then finished them in white cooking wine to top off our steaks tonight. Delicious!
I know it's still early in the season yet but I'd at least thought I'd find some pins considering the agrocybes was up. Hopefully in the upcoming weeks I'll find something.

yes. I went from spore print -> PF style cakes with some sawdust added -> woodchips.
In the summer last year I went right outdoors. I colonized some chips indoors over the winter. Room temperature seemed fine for colonizing. The chips and PF cakes got moldy indoors but once outside the mold dies off.
While i have not seen it fruit yet it was very successful and getting lots of mycelium.

Pray to the ovoid gods for me today. They are in pa now. Temps have been awesome for a week now and I'm listening to the tail end of a thunderstorm. Hopefully those conditions kick things off for me.

One of my beds I let go to shit has some pins. Recently got leaf blown to shit by the mexicutioner. Most of the mulch is gone and one cake remains. I’m in the northern range and combined temps have been below 100 closer to 90. This spot is part of a raised bed that gets a lot of sun. Also I’ve been watering some grass seed around it a few times a day. I’m shocked that it’s fruiting. I guess conditions are good in that spot for early fruits. Those to the north should check their sunny irrigated spots. If they in my neck of the woods they should be fruiting throughout the range. I’ll get some pics up next day or two. Good luck out there.

Just found a post on facebook that morels were found in my county on the 3rd. Should mean I'm super close. I swear I'll blow my load the minute I locate my first find. All this foreplay on here gives me bluebells.

Has anyone ever found these in NY, and/or Central NY? Not this season I mean ever? I checked my woods yesterday but no fungus of any sort yet. Couple weeks I think for mushrooms here , the skunk cabbage is just starting to poke up.
I don't know anyone who has found these in Central NY

I'm almost positive I've seen past reports of central New York. I'm in central pa and morels just popped here on the 3rd. The skunk cabbage has been popping for nearly 3 weeks here. The first leaves have finally flourished and the rest of the buds are starting to open on the rest of the trees. I havent found much fungi here yet either especially not any spring fungi yet other than a few sulphur tufts and some mica caps. Hoping today is the day in the best spot I know of.

Thanks dude! We had a pretty mild March but we are not quite where you are yet. No real buds or leaves

Went out Monday and searched around. Was in a few big non landlocked reservoirs with lots of flood plain and creeks feeding in/out. After 2 hours of not finding anything but sprouting trout lily and skunk cabbage I was pretty bummed lol. Stopped in one last flood plain with a ton of beech, birch, box elder trash everywhere and a few different conifers as well. Found these pins, but I'm not sure what they are. They were all pretty small even the more mature looking ones. But damn I was happy to see the first mushroom of spring!

Finding new patches is hard this early in the season, Id reccomend searching manmade mulch beds you have better chance of seeing the pins.

Still nothing here and I checked everything today thoroughly. Thought the rain would kick it off but nope. I guess I wait until this cold snap passes.
