For me, pants treated with permethrin are the only way to go. Shoes too. It's otherwise not worth the risk. I'm going to step outside and treat this year's pair right now.
Also google lens is interesting but I hate putting their location/life tracking software on any device, and especially not Android devices. Just keep in mind that if you're including GPS data in photos or through the apps tracking ability (through GPS, nearby Wifi, Celluar data) you may very well be allowing google (and anyone who buys their data) to track your personal movements, or worse: your best ovoid spots.

I’m right around north Raleigh these days, How are your foraging and hunting?
I rarely, if ever find actives here ( but I also don’t trespass ), minus 1 rare odd gym years ago and some maggot infested pans. How about you?
Now that everyone’s on lockdown, i think I’ll start searching again daily as a hobby. Lawns, parks, roads, forests , lakesides etc.

I also barely come across any ticks myself. Maybe had to pick one or two off my dog but that’s it

I started last season and found 2 on me. Had an old bottle of dog tick spray which happened to be permethrin. Never saw another tick all season. They aren't bad here yet but they are getting started. Found 2 on the dogs so far this season but none on me.

I do things to avoid ticks but they come with the territory around here. I've found 4 on me/my clothes and had one dug in on my waistband area last week.
Its going to be one of the worst tick seasons of my lifetime this year due to the lack of freezing hours this past winter.
-------
Saw another 100 or so specimens today after ~250 yesterday. The vast majority of today's fruits were, again, aging and desiccated. Like yesterday, observed very few viable pins.

Hello from northeast central PA. I cant wait until the ovoideocystidiata begin the appear up here. Originally I was going to miss the season as I was supposed to get married near the end of this month and then go to Jamaica immediately after. Psilocybin mushrooms are actually legal and readily available there so I wasn't wasn't too upset about being unable to hunt some ovoids. COVID19 forced all that to be postponed. Thus, ovoid season is freed up. While I'm upset about our wedding and honeymoon, I am looking forward to spending time in nature and being able to experience the joy of foraging ovoideocystidiata which is helping me cope with these difficult times. There is great uncertainty around my job and the health of loved ones. I think that the activity of hunting these great fungi and then using them for ethereal purposes and personal betterment will ultimately result in people who are more adequately prepared to deal with the philosophical and spiritual implications of things like COVID. We have many of us been blind for several decades to the possibility of a major disruption to normalcy. Seekers of higher truths and psychedelic states of consciousness are at the very least able to comprehend the importance of radical shifts to the normal life processes and material world.
Sorry for the rant. I just felt the need to express my joy to be part of this community and my philosophical underpinnings of why foraging these beautiful fungi is even more important at the start of this already crazy decade.
Happy hunting folks!

Did NO ONE read my "TICK & OTHER BUG REPELLENT TIPS" or even try them?
I know it sucks wearing pants but try a thinner wicker material & make sure it's a light color. Same for your shirt. Tuck them in to avoid those waistline diggers + this prevents the worst of the worst... CHIGGERS. Trust me, I got into a nest of them 2 years ago, NEVER had before & hope NEVER again. Hence tucking pants into socks!

What phase of growth is the dryad saddle near you guys? Last year I found a bunch of that before ovoids. Just curious as I try to learn what grows when so I know exactly what to watch and when to hunt ovoids. I'm not seeing any saddle yet which concerns me.

Looks like your areas are catching up with mine in the lesser celandine spectrum. I think the problem with celandine is that although it promotes mycellium growth in the beginning, it's slime and other molds quickly overtake the ovoid mycellium when it begins dying off. Before the mycellium can consolidate and fruit. At least, that's been my experience with some occasional fruiting before the celandine starts to die off, which are ridiculously hard to find.
IME, the celandine carpet has done nothing good at all in my areas....changing previous high fruiting areas into busts. I hate it.

Nevermind. Read a few pages back that ovoids were found before dryad saddle in central Maryland a week ago.

For the most part, I find dryads just before ovoids, or concurrent with the very first of the earliest fruits.
Peak ovoid season is def after peak dryad.

Enoki is pretty cool. I didn't know it grew around here. Makes me want to cook up some ramen!
