Do we prefer them young, more brown, and more nipply opposed to the flat and pale?
I dont mind finding them when they're pale because that just means less time in the dehydrator. They are also more sturdy when partially dry so there is much less damage and oxidation during transport.
Arguably more photogenic when more moist, with caramel caps.

Dang, these "official" threads keep getting more and more specific. Maybe I should fire up another Official Suchen thread.
Somewhere near Charlottesville, Virginia with special thanks to VirginiaGentleman for the habitat knowledge, my boys Skinny J and Red Stefan for the Wuhan shakes and social distance hunting, and with deep apologies for the uncharacteristically shitty photos:

Pittsburgh should be popping any day now though. It has to be close. Before we know it this thread will be packed with all our finds.

Yeah i been out every day lots of mushrooms just no voids yet. The floodplains are looking really good and the mulch beds too had a great time hunting today it was fuckin nice out 80° is unheard of this time of year. Id have to say Pittsburgh is the best place on the east coast for void hunting the three rivers and mulchbeds at every building make it hard not to find them. Gonna be a hell of a season

You may be right, but I like being on the susquehanna. The hunting here on the local creeks and the susquehanna is pretty good.

Nice finds and pics all - They have added a spot of brightness to a somewhat gloomy day And nice to see the move north so hope to be on board in about two weeks. Most of my spots of had fresh mulch recently piled on but I hope to meet them somewhere because thereās nothing like fresh ovoid... Have fun stay safe and be well G Hopefully the shape of things to come

So what's the farthest North anyone has found them yet this year? We're getting rain this week and it's been mostly high 40s mid 50s with some days hitting mid 60s in NY. Gonna go walk some spots today if the rain stays at a sprinkle.

Good to know. I've been off the forum since last fall, and finally decided to log in yesterday. Gotta say I was surprised to see the Ovoid thread up and running full speed already. I'm chomping at the bit here.
