I’m guessing if he had an update he would have updated

According to Koods tree his spots should be popping this week. Unfortunately that means I have another 10-14 days before I see ANYTHING!
Owe well, I will just have to keep scouting for other possible locations until then.
Unlike you guys, our mulch is made from pallets & sold locally. Most trees = fire wood including box elders. So finding them in mulch in this area is highly unlikely.
I'll stick to debris piles that have box elders in them & hope for the best. I've found a few new locations that have potential but we'll have to wait & see

They just added new mulch to one of my huge patches near a business. Hoping it doesnt slow the mushrooms from growing so many. Next year it should be super epic as the new mulch gets inoculated

If they can grow in mulch in a habitat they can grow in the wild if they find the right habitat. I found 3 different habitats last year. I'm in the susquehanna valley of pa. I found about a pound worth in the mulch of a local business. I've found them in a flood plains area that was once a lake. Pounds there. The trees are all less than 10 years old and no one goes there any more which is nice. My biggest patch so far is in this old lake in a pile of wood chips I found and around some small shrubbery plant. I've only explored 1/3 of this entire damn so far. My final spot is right next to another local creek where they like to grow out of the grass on a road the township has to maintain the local sewer system and such. I'm new so I dont have enough experience to be a pro on this at all, just know what I have near me. I may be lucky to live where they aren't hunted mush if at all and local wood chips come from infested wood possibly. I cant imagine that it hasn't spread to the wild if it's in mulch beds. Not to mention every state near and around you.

Its interesting you found them by a lake, I have been searching the area around a manmade dam lake here for years now. It seems like it would be the ultimate habitat because it has a MASSIVE floodplain completely filled with decomposing wood. I am gonna keep looking here every year till i find some because on paper it seems like the ultimate spot. All my floodplain finds have been next to rivers so maybe it is the flowing water needed to carry the spores. I will have to get some pics there so you can see what im saying it just absolutely boggles my mind that there are no mushrooms there. Imagine a feild of wood that goes as far as your eyes can see in every direction.

I'm not sure what type of shrubs they are. There is a spot nearby that is under some black locust and maple trees. They love to lay in the shade under those little shrubs and the grasses there. None of my finds are near the creek there. They are all between 20 and 150 feet from the actual creek and its highest points.

I found about a pound there last year late in the season once I finally found the location. Still another 20 acres easy I havent explored yet. I'm stoked and that's why I cant wait for them to start popping. That's a pound dried.

Hoping everyone stay well. At least hunting is consistent with the order of the day at least around these parts. G

Hoping to find some time and put in some leg work and get my first ovoid this season!
Any tip for a solid starting place? I feel like I see conflicting habitats..do these like wood chips or do they like streams?? Do they just like both?
