Still curious as to whether or not Ovoideocystideata grow in NC. I see absolutely no reason why they wouldn't, though my searches in appropriate areas have yielded nothing. However, it seems that all of the neighboring states have sightings. Is it possible that NC simply has no ovoid growth?

Ive used many tactics it really depends on the situation, ive pretened to pick up trash and cigarettes, at a buissness with security that constantly do rounds, in places that are higly populated ive had limited success trying to grab them during early morning hours like 3-4am it can be more covert but if you are seen they will immediately know you are up to no good. My favorite kind of picking takes place in the floodplains where I can harvest in peace. One of my spots is at a park in a location that is rented out for weddings, since it is always booked i will sometimes just pretend to blend in the best I can. Picking on private property can be rewarding but the risk can outweigh the reward. Most of the time I will transplant patches from public mulch beds to secluded locations.

i'd bet my last roll of toilet paper that they grow there. you not finding them isn't very strong evidence to the contrary.

Here's a question-- finding Ovoids in mulch doesn't indicate that the species grows in its natural habitat in that area, right? I imagine there are states where they grow in mulch but not in floodplain areas

I would say if they are in mulch beds and an adequate natural habitat exists it would not be unreasonable to find them in nature. From what I have seen they are much easier to find in mulch so it is hard to say

That's what I like to see koods. Start sending pictures of your finds already. I'm afraid I'm still 2 weeks or so out. Hoping I'm wrong but if the temps dip like they are supposed to it will add some time to the wait. Today is certainly bringing up the ground temps and water levels.

anyone else find that this mushroom LOVES Glechoma hederacea? I think every single time I have found them this plant has been within 2 meters (for everyone that prefers customary units that's 6 feet or one social distance unit) of them.

Mr. Kellyanne Conway has a warning for our local DC mushroom hunters. Rabies detected in raccoon in Glover Archibald Park.

That is very true, and it could also very well be I'm not looking hard enough/in the right spot/late enough into the season. My primary concern is that there are no recorded observations of the fungus in this state in herbaria or otherwise. However, the fungus was only recently described, so I'm pretty sure the data on it's range is incomplete, so to speak.

NC has rivers and sticks, and the right climate. I grew up in NC, and if I'd known about ovoids back then, I would've spent serious time looking for them. NC has very diverse terrain though, so if you're right on the coast or way up in the mountains, your chances seem lower.

Do you think anyone will be patrolling parks? I just expect no working facilities. VA has specifically asked police not to make arrests when possible, not sure about DC, but I would expect "sorry, park's closed" to be the worst that could happen.
I just hope we don't go the way of NYC which I expect to go into total lockdown soon.

It’s not so much that you will get in trouble for being in the park. It will be that you will be alone, you will Attract attention and cops will want to know what you’re doing. It’s like the risk of being caught breaking quarantine will vastly increase the risk of being caught with illegal mushrooms.
