Pressure cooker UK?

Can anyone tell me of a pressure cooker that i can buy in the UK to steralise grain? I have been reading that 15 PSI is needed. Is this correct?
I would prefer an electric cooker that i can move around from room to room. If not i have a stove top but it is ceramic not gas.
Thanks in advance.

I've read about "Presto 23 Qt" in most pressure cooking-related posts.
15 PSI is a common pressure you'll achieve on most pressure cookers you'll find on the market for home use.
I started off with what I had, which was a very old, leaking steam, would only fit one-quart jar at the time pressure cooker.
Never got any contamination issues as long as you respect proper sterilization time and venting. (I recommend reading and applying Bod's Pressure Cooker Use TEK)
The bottom line is I can't tell you which model to look for, but basically don't stress it out too much, just look for what fits your need best. The bigger the better, unless you don't mind doing endless runs of sterilizing grains

Thankyou for the link. I want to do maybe 4-8 jars at a time. The key for me is to find a cooker that will do the job right. Kill all germs and fit a few jars. I need one with a tray in the bottom to sit the jars on.
Does anyone know if i cannot achieve 15 psi will it still work if i just leave them cooking longer? Obviously higher pressure means higher temps. Is there anything chemical i can add that will help? For example, if you add salt to water it lowers the boiling point when heating.
I was also looking into making grain bags instead of jars. Maybe combining grain with coffee so i can grow straight out of the bag. Does anyone know of a tutorial that covers how to do this. Here is a link to what i am looking into.

Presto is great and will achieve 15psi, UK cookers are set to 12psi not 15psi which is no problem, you can either PC for a longer time plenty of info on here and the web about that.
Or alternatively if you get a UK cooker weigh the jiggle weight, divide that by 12 which will give you the weight needed for each 1psi and times it by 3 which will give you the extra weight you need to add to your jiggle weight to make it 15psi.
My SQ professional 18L need the weight of 3 10p pieces to achieve this.

The presto 16qt will hold 7 quart jars, the presto 23qt will hold 10. I recently purchased the 23qt, as I couldn't find any electronic pressure cooker that would hold enough jars.
Bod also has a full guide to growing without a PC. Check out the links in my sig, it there somewhere.

My mind is boggled. Why in the world is the UK version sold at a lower standard pressure?

I have seen these on ebay:
Dental Autoclave Sterilizer
They were cheaper some months ago, so I guess after some were sold they raised the price, but they're still pretty cheap I think.
This is from the German ebay but as they're produced in China I bet, that they ship to the UK, too.
Anyway, don't expect an All American (although I hear, that even AA rolled back on quality with the new models). Still it does it's job and reaches up to 21 PSI. It is electric, but has no on/off switch, so when you plug it in, it goes full power. But you can still put it on some heat-plate to control temps. Like letting it heat up to the desired pressure/temp, then plugging it off and keeping it on a hot plate to stabilize it.

My PC only goes to about 9 or maybe 10psi (no gauge) but Ive been doing pint jars of grain in it for 3 hours with no contam issues. I haven't tried quart/litre jars but as long as your PC doesn't run out of water, you can do them a little longer.
My PC is "SQ professional" brand, not sure if theyre even available new anymore but it was under £30 and is roomy enough for maybe 8 pint jars, but will only fit two quart jars lying down.
Prestos seem to be available on ebay with shipping from the US, but I have no experience of buying one.

Yeah, the last link is exactly the same model I posted. It seems some Chineese company is selling them all over Europe for around 150-200 bucks.

I have found an 8lt electric pressure cooker for £80
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-IN-BOX-Instant-Pot-8-Litre-Electric-Pressure-Cooker-IP-80-Duo-8L/312975455000?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
It wont get the desired pressure but it was in my price range. Those autoclaves mentioned look really good. If this does not work out i will probably save up for one. I will let you all know how it works out. 8 ltr seams enough for such a small setup and i reckon i can just load it up and leave it running with very little hassle. Maybe take a little longer but that is fine.

For that price you might as well order a proper one from the US via ebay. However, it is not an electric one. A large electric one is going to cost a fortune though.
I got this one a while ago (it was only 65USD at the time - with all the taxes/shipping/fees I paid a total of 89 quid for it) : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pressure-Cooker-Canner-Presto-23-Quart-Dial-Gauge-Air-Vent-Deluxe-Aluminium-New/222606109321

8l sounds a little small, especially foie the price. I'm not sure how many jars you'll get in there at a time but report back how it goes!

I tried an 8L electric pressure cooker that was a different brand. It could only fit 3 1qt wide mouth jars, or 8 1pt wide mouth jars. The timer wouldn't go over 30 minutes, so it was super annoying turning it back on 4-6 times. It only lasted about 8 runs before the thermal protection fuse quit. I replaced it, but the board was already cooked, so it wouldn't build pressure anymore. The presto 23qt was an absolute dream after that bullshit.

Big too.. the 22l has internal capacity of 18L. I like the double bucket thing so that the stuff you're sterilizing doesn't touch the sides. They seem alright for China. I saw some brewery friends using it and they had no complaints. They do a digitally controlled model but that's like 700 bucks. Which seems a lot for what could be made using a plug timer.

The timer on this can go to 120 minutes for pressure cooking. I only want to do a couple of jars at a time to start with, maybe even some autoclave bags. I will experiment with it and see what results i get. The main problem for me is having a ceramic hob instead of gas. Alot of these autoclave pots are not suited to ceramic hobs.

That Autoclave i linked uses its own 240v supply, no hob needed. You could use it in the shed.

OK so its a few weeks on and this has worked really great for me.
8 ltr cooker

I can fit 3 jars at a time maybe 4 at a push. I found that these
https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/douwe-egberts-pure-gold-medium-roast-coffee-190g-293572
work really well for me. I can use the coffee then take the plastic insert out of the lid and then use micropore tape all around the lid creating great air transfer. I also drill a couple of holes in the lids for more air transfer and injection ports.
I use a SAB with sterile needles. First i pressure cook a glass of water and scrape a spore print into it. I then pull the solution into the syringes and leave them for a day while i prepare the grain. Once injected i pressure cook for 2hrs leave to cool not fully, inject, shake and incubate @ between 22-25 degrees c. After 2-3 weeks they are fully colonised. First batch are Amazonian and i am getting pretty good results for my first time using substrate which is coco coir and verm with a little coffee.
Here are some more pics.

Bonus for having this pressure cooker is it makes great lamb casserole for my elderly neighbour while we are in lockdown

First of all, apologies to all for reviving an older thread.
I read through this and found it very interesting, particularly as UK members have some difficulty sourcing affordable and appropriate for use pressure cookers.
This seems a good way to open the door for those with less resources that may already own such a device.
If possible could you clarify some of the method. Queries are in brackets.
As far as I can see it goes as follows
Day 1:
1. Pressure cook glass of water, (2 hours?)+(allow to cool?).
2. Scrape spore print into sterilised water, draw into syringes and leave to rest.
Day 2:
4. Pressure cook grain for 2 hours (high setting?).
5. Inject grain with spore syringe, shake and leave to incubate at 22-25c.
If possible could you also outline the method for pasteurising/sterilising your substrate?
Again, apologies for reviving an older thread, it just seems that it could worthwhile to confirm whether this system continued to work over time , and to clarify its method if so.
Thanks
