I think your cakes will be fine, I never had much luck with cold treatment though. When I can't get somthing to pin I just give it more light.

cold shocking works well, reducing the temperature in the grow area is actually a strategy for initiating pinhead formation. There is good info about cold shocking in Paul Stamets "growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms"

One thing to be careful of is you would probably want to make sure your casing is well covered in plastic wrap before putting it into the fridge. Your fridge is full of contams just waiting to hatch.

When I cold shock I usually take a bowl, fill it with ice and place it in my terrarium. This lowers the temp enough to cold shock (a 10 degree (f) drop is all that is needed).

I didn't cover though...think this will be an issue?? I thought that once the cake was coloniozed that other contams didn't really have a chance....
