They are close but I would still give them a day or 3. Better late than too soon with spawn
Regarding agar, it's super easy to make your own, and you can save a ton of money vs buying premade stuff. I use telephone brand and LME. You can buy 2l of premade MEA mix or a 15l worth of ingredients for about the same price, and for our purposes there is no real difference. Check out the guide in my sig
I never did no pours except for plant tissue culture, I really like the visibility you get from using disposable petri dishes
And about the question you asked me via pm: as per bods coir tek I usually let it sit in the cooler overnight, so it stays hot for quite a while longer than the couple of hours you mentioned. Just do it one night before you go to bed and it should be good to go by the time you get to it then next day

Ok thanks bud, I appreciate it your time. I ended up buying a nice set up of items to start streaking some agar.
Telephone agar LME Inoculation loop #11 blade with solid metal handle Culinary torch (solid base to it) Petri dishes 500mL Pyrex media glass
I think that’s it. Cost 105$, should be helpful though. ( ;;;;

Perfect
Make sure you get the powdered LME, it's easier to weigh
Did you buy a 500 case of petri dishes? Should be about 70$
You can get that agar dirt cheap at asian stores btw
I like the #7 scalpel handles a lot better than the other kind. Main blades I use are #11 and #15c
I like the
Make sure the loop is metal not plastic

Hey sorry forgot to reply, I meant to at work but totally forgot. I actually only got 30 but I just got my taxes today so I’m going to buy a case. I imagine this will be worth it, but part of me is like damn I’m spending a decent amount of money on all of this lol...
I hope my loop is metal, would be stupid if I knew to get a metal scalpel but forgot about getting a metal loop. I’m going to mix up my sub right now, let it sit with hot water and mix it together before bed tonight! The jars definitely look ready. Looks more solid then yesterday

Great. Yeah if you are into the hobby long term its definitely worth the investment, saves a bunch of money over small purchases

Ok so I was going to spawn these like right now. I’ve had my coir/Verm sitting in (was boiling) water for a few hours. I checked my jars again, and not sure what to think. Is it bad? I looked at other posts and not sure what to think of mine. What shall I do?

Did you follow bods tek? Coir should still be hot for many hours if you use the 5 gal cooler as directed
Just leave it overnight, no reason to rush it.
Yeah itd probably be fine, coir is all but bulletproof, but why not follow the tek to a t? Jars are probably fine but an extra day wont hurt and might help. Honestly I'd probably give them 2 days

I read damions and Bods bucket tek, and they were similar so I just used their numbers but had to change the amounts for how much substrate I was using. Essentially just boil water, measure coir/Verm and put it in bucket, then put boiling water in bucket with something for a lid.
I didn’t explain myself in my last post. I’m actually worried how my jars look in a few spots. I’ve read a lot of different posts and still can’t say if my jars look off at all, and if they do I’m not sure what to do about it.. like still spawn the same or what.

They look alright. Definitely a little bacterial but should get some fruits for sure I'd say.

Yes probably a little bacterial but a bet you’ll get fruit. Once this hobby gets ya it gets ya, interested to see how this one pans out
I ended up making my own inoculation loop by attaching some vape wire on the end of a pencil, works a treat and gets red hot. When you’re into agar it’ll be a flow hood next just building mine now.

Thanks for the replies guys, I feel a little better. Spawning then tonight.
Good idea with the vape wire. I ended up just buying one, but I don’t think it’s pure metal. Would like to PC some of my items. Ya I think it’s taking hold of me too. I have an inline fan from when I grew weed and I’m going to make a flow hood too. How’s yours going?

Good luck with the spawning, keep us updated

Don’t know if anyone mentioned this but, if you’re gonna try MS->grain, don’t inoculate through your poly filter. How would you even do that if you flame your needle? Did it melt some of the poly?
Much safer to lift the lid a bit and inject ime.

I believe I read that somewhere, I read a few do it through the poly so I said fuck it lets try. It didn't melt anyone of it surprisingly, I made it super tight too.
I only have two jars ready for spawn, should I put them in separate shoeboxes? im about to spawn them in the tonight. Also, I pasteurized my coir/verm substrate yesterday, and left it in the bucket until today. Is it ok to just use it still? From what I read, seems like its good to go.

I only have two shoeboxes so far. One jar was a touch bacterial like you guys said (picture of jars I spawned are above,) but it seems like it’s doing well. I just spawned the other one today I think, surprised I can’t remember.. but what is that orange spot? It hasn’t grown at all and looks like a grain is stuck to the wall and it’s off the grain?

Why wouldn't you inoclute through your poly filter? You can let the needle cool a bit or squirt a shot out before going in.

Because contam spores can land on your poly, even in the SAB. Then you’re just pushing them through with the needle. Same reason SHIPs are a contam vector.

This is what I got going right now. I got lazy and didn’t get more agar or more jars going, but I’m going to inoculate some more jars (with a syringe.) I didn’t get any serious contams and it’s just for while I wait for agar to be ready.
My agar is ok to be sitting like that? I was going to inoculate another 20-40 today so curious if I’m doing it right. From what I read I am.

All grain except 1 BRF. One box has pin, too early? How’s it look? I’m happy with it cuz it’s my tower grow but, I feel there’s room for improvement. What do you guys think?
