Why am I getting burst grey grains?

I've followed RR tek for prepping grains. Soak for 4 to 24 hours ( I've tried 4, 12 and 24 hours) bring to a full boil and let it boil for 10 minutes. Every time I've had burst grain. Am I doing something wrong or do you think it's the quality of the grains?

There are so many different varietals of cereal grains within a group like "rye" or "oats". The time of harvest, soil quality, and environmental factors, variety, and age, all have play on how the grain needs to be handled.
I have a nice batch of rye right now that's super easy to work with... Boil water, add rye, stir. Turn off heat, place on lid, come back 20 minutes later and drain.
Sounds like your overcooking it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I get what you mean. I'm not over cooking them as I'm following rr grain prep and tons of others have success with. I am guessing it's the quality of them. I'll try get different source. It's hard in the uk finding stuff haha

I second Nichrome's solution of cooking them less. Seems like this would be an easier fix than getting new grains especially if you already have a lot. There are so many different ways to prepare grains. You don't even need to boil them if they're well-hydrated after the soak.

I always had that problem with WBS. The first time I used Bodhisatta's tek on prepping oats was the first time they came out great. Gotta use whole oats for feeding horses, not the stuff for making oatmeal.

In the years since i started this hobby, anytime i let grains boil more than a minute or so, i always have issues. I also think you are overcooking them and should reduce your boil time. I've also had bad batches of grain where nothing i did worked so can also be that.
