What is this brown spot in my substrate?

So I put my grains in my substrate like a month and a half ago and nothing has pinned yet. I think I put them in too early. Today I noticed this brown spot. Anyone have any idea what it is?

A month since spawn? What do you do for FAE?
Either way, if you have something else to work with, dump this tub.

I'm using bod's monotub so I have the lid on upside down

Is there “sweat” on the walls and lid of the tub?
The resolution is too low on those pics. Looks like the brown is a super dry spot but I can’t be sure until I see better pics.
Do you mist? How often?

I don't mist. I thought it was "set and forget."
There's no sweat on the walls

I just misted it some.... I sprayed it like 1.5 feet above the substrate and some on the walls... how often should I be doing it? Only when it looks dry?
Hopefully it's salvageable :/

Looks dry. Mist as needed. This takes a bit of experience to know how often to mist. If it's too dry, you may way to resoak the tub from the bottom by dropping water down the sides. Too much misting makes the surface pool up which isn't good. You got to go by feel... Search the forums for substrate pictures to get a feel. I'm guessing it's way too dry and will need some rehydration. I don't know what the brown spot is...

Normally, yes. But, normally, you wouldn’t be waiting a month to see pins. The sub deff dried out by now.
The lack of “sweat” is a concern. Close the lid completely overnight to see it that changes. A sub that doesn’t give off heat is usually a dead sub
First thing you need to do is give it a thorough misting. I’m talking 20-30 seconds. It’ll absorb the moisture in a day or so. I know it’s not looking good, but I suspect you’ll get some fruits yet...if I’m right, the humidity was too low in there...an easy fix.

Okay. Well it's been growing at least so that's a good sign I suppose.
Would it be beneficial to take the lid off for a while?

I normally don't have to mist for the first week or so, but after increasing FAE, I need to mist 2 times a day. I live in a dry climate. Definitely not a set and forget it here. I use shoeboxes, FYI.

Gotta keep those tiny water beads on the surface.
The good news is if it’s alright it should pin super fast once the problems are fixed.
I can’t tell if you used one or not but a top layer of coir helped me out a lot with surface drying.
