Quick jar lid question

Once I've steam-sterilized my jars and left them overnight, and once I've inoculated, do I need to cover up the holes in my jar lids?

No, the verm layer gives enough protection. Any additional covering will unnecessarily restrict air and slow growth.

I don't think he mentioned using verm
There are ways of covering the hole without restricting gas exchange (polyester fibre or micropore tape?)
The growth being slightly slowed down should be a smaller problem than having the gates to shroomtown open for nasty stuff to freely get in. (and yes, contam can get through verm,)

I've read some stuff about higher initial Co2 levels accelerating the inoculation period, which is attained by covering the holes. I've also read, however, that the jars need to breathe.
Should I go for a tape from the get-go? If so, is there anything that you can recommend that I could buy locally?

I'm going to follow the original pf tek, they have a verm layer, but also cover the holes on the lid with one layer of microtape. And when inoculating, they stab the needle through the microtape, and I assume they leave it at that.
Is this a correct way to do this? The microtape is there, but it has a small hole from a needle. If I was to put the tape on the lid after inoculating while still inside SAB, how could I make sure the microtape itself isn't contaminated?

Just to clarify, you are using the pf tek/brown rice flour and verm cakes, correct?
If so, here is an Updated PF Tek from 2017 that is very detailed.
They do not use anything to cover the holes (foil, tape, etc) ever, and they provide this reasoning for removing the foil after inoculation:
"We leave the foil off after inoculation for a few reasons.
The foil blocks Gas Exhange and can cause jars to stall.
Condensation can form on the foil causing the dry verm layer to fail"
Hope this helps

Foil is different than gas exchange holes with a filter though.
I would cover the needle hole with tape or tyvek, I taped mine, but Iām far from an expert on cakes.

Not necessary to cover holes if you have a verm layer.
