So that "Spore dump ruining future flushes" adage is bullshit ๐

First flush, harvested late, massive spore dump everywhere in the shoebox (6qt). There was a sheet of black covering the entire sub, literally the worst I've ever seen in real life and on the internet (maybe a slight exaggeration but you get the picture). Harvested about 16 grams dry, and id say maybe about under half the sub had pins, but there were definitely lots of 'bald' spots (sorry I didn't take pics, I didn't know Id be mounting an investigation).
Now today (4 days after harvest and dunk) I checked the bin again. The surface is covered with pins. Probably the densest pin set I've ever had, not the densest ever but I'd say pretty close (especially considering this was MS). This goes counter to everything I've experienced/been taught; not only do flushes get smaller each subsequent harvest, but also that spore dumps ruin future flushes. I'd also like to add that I was brutal with the sub. I picked the fruits instead of cutting and left some myc craters. After this harvest I'm going to weigh and compare with the first flush to see how measurable the difference really was.
QUESTION FOR SCIENCE : Just for fun I threw some wax paper over the myc to 'balance out the spore drop' (or so i was hoping atleast) so maybe that had an effect on the pins? But it was also my understanding that knots/pins for the first two flushes are formed well before your first harvest. And even if the paper helped, I wouldnt have seen results so quickly right? Maybe a denser than normal 3rd flush but the paper couldnt have worked fast enough to influence the pins so soon right?
This whole grow feels like a massive contradiction. If I have any outdated thoughts/opinions please correct them, Im genuinely puzzled. Im not sure if the spore dump thing has been debunked yet but the most recent info I've read claimed that the hormones or some other system tells the myc to stop fruiting or something along those lines. Thanks

Thereโs nothing wrong with a spore drop and most TCโs would tell you the same. Itโs the potency that is affected by the time spores are dropping. As long as your using a coir substrate the spores donโt matter, as coir isnโt nutritious enough to germinate spores.
Honestly I believe you but the lack of pics has me wary that this is the truth. Also there was no need to make this your first post. Post in Cultivation General Discussion instead. Hopefully a mod moves it because youโre going to get a barrage on noobs thinking they know what theyโre talking about.

Nah thereโs no need, I gave you your answer. Spores on coir is less than ideal, but not a problem. If youโve got pics of it Iโd like to see them, just so I can be sure that itโs not a ridiculous amount of spores.

Congrats on two subsequent harvests. I personally don't care about weight cause I don't have a small penis.
But it seems like you are asking a question with you fists up ready to fight. Lol
But yeah I don't think I have ever read a TC say a spore drop on your sub will stall growth or inhibit future flushes. Your good. Oh and we all live on this forum for mush porn so please post a picture of this load.

First flush isn't always the largest. I don't think the spores have much effect on anything but maybe waiting to harvest the mushrooms, which is what led to the spores dropping, gave it more time to prepare for the next flush.

Jeez just looking at that picture makes my allergies flare up lol
I bet that old adage comes from oyster mushroom cultivation. No idea if it's true or not but obv you don't want oysters to start dropping spores

I'm sure I'm not the only person to notice that dying mushrooms left on the substrate for a long time can become easy targets for pathogens. So there might be a correlation there since mature mushrooms left on the substrate drop a lot of spores and then die. That doesn't necessarily mean simply dropping the spores in itself has any kind of negative effect.
