Interesting. Thanks! So you don't think that I should be worrying about the fact that nothing started happening yet, even though t's ~day 7, son to be 8?

What’s your temperature like?

Also there’s a chance that it won’t germinate, happens a lot with syringes.

Well shit. I bought it from a reputable seller... One who's really well-reknowned and has a LOT of reviews, like all of them positive.

Is it a bad sign that it's this far in, and no growth as of yet? Should I be worried?

Temp is anywhere from 74-82, give or take.

Oh. And I used fine verm for both the substrate as well as the protective verm layer. No tape, or anything like that. Is fine verm okay? It's all I could find. I didn't "pack it" in there.

Everyone said it can take up to 2 weeks before you see signs of growth. Stop asking if you should be worried for at least 7 more days. And if you see no growth after seven days, still don't ask if you should be worried, because you actually should be worried. Your jar looks fine, so don't worry, until then.

Raccoon is right, don’t stress. Your spores either will or won’t germinate. Doesn’t matter how reputable the vendor is, just because all of his ratings are positive doesn’t mean he can bend the course of nature to only sell viable spores. It’s far easier to germinate spores on agar than on the main substrate and give you wayyyy less chance of contamination. And you can see if your spores are viable before wasting a jar.

Thanks guys. Yeah I worry too much. One reason why I'm taking up this project.

So good news. Day 8? I think? If I counted right? I see one tiny cloth-y white spot showing up on one jar, and a smaller on on another. Hoping this is good! I think this is what I've been waiting for!

Also, when it comes to the fruiting chamber, I made one out of a plastic tote. I can't get all the "excess plastic bits" off, from where I drilled. Most I can, not all though. But they're not "clogged" as far as I can tell. Is this alright to go ahead and use once it's time, regardless of the plastic bits?

Thanks!

I made an account to reply to you. I think there is a possibility you are over thinking some of this. When you read the super helpful posts here, nobody ever says "think about every last millimeter of every tool and container you use, and never ever start until you are sure conditions are 100% perfect. Only then will you have 100% success." Its pretty much "chill out, use what you have, fix it if it doesn't work, and everybody's stuff fails now and then."

I don't have direct experience with how the shredded/chipped plastic stuff from drilling would affect a grow. I don't see how it really could? The colony is already going to be surrounded by plastic, I don't think it's going to run into some unevenly cut plastic and abort.

If it all goes to hell, the worst case scenario is you're out the cost of a syringe. You have all the time in the world to try again until you get it right.

Thanks, Cactus! And absolutely I am. I overthink everything. Again, which is one reason I want to do this project. To help me with my anxiety and overthinking...ness... haha!

But I did want to give some updates.

Nothing substantial, but at least there's a tiny bit of growth! Does this mean it'll "take off" soon?

The picture doesn't do it justice, but in clear-sight, it's a little white fuzzy dude. Optimistic!

Start your self help therepy now. Take a few days off from posting, relax, and just enjoy the process. Just observe it grow. It's gonna do what it's gonna do regardless. It looks good. We'll all be here when you get back from your break. Cheers!

Thanks man! Yeah, currently WIP. Meditating with a candle in my freetime because it's relaxing. Maybe playing my guitar. This isn't going to be a "fix" for me. Just hopefully to aid what I'm already working on. I'm not where I'd like to be yet, but I'm determined to take the steps necessary to become the best 'me'. And glad it's looking good! Thanks man! I appreciate you. Excited to see things progress with this. It sure is teaching me patience haha

Good luck on your journey. I can relate. Overanalyzing is one of my strengths, it really helps my research and my ability to learn. But it also prevents me from relaxing and achieving some level of ego death during meditation and trips. Lately my goal has been to just let go, no matter how important a thought or situation seems to be. As it pertains to your grow, be okay with some level of uncertainty. Let it go. Worse case is that it it fails to grow and you learn something. That's an amazing outcome, learning something. It sounds like you'll be fine though, with your attention to detail and good sterile practice.

Thanks so much man. That really means a lot. Its one step at a time. Thank you! Glad to have such kindness here, thank you!

So i havent seen any growth at all since that last update. Does it not suddenly start growing rapidly once it appears? Its still just a dot of mycelium in the jar.

Maybe I should loosen the jar lids a little? They were on there rather tightly. Maybe since it's fine verm, it's not getting enough FAE.

GE, rather.*

I don't have experience with cakes, so I can't answer that. The growth will be a consistent rate of expansion. If it stalls, then you may not have enough GE, but that's up to you to decide. Sometimes people do to much and ruin their grow, so inaction is often the best choice. Maybe wait a day to see what happens first? But if your instinct says GE is restricted, then give a little more...

I don't know... I'm getting really damn frustrated because I spent a fair amount of money getting this together, to help my anxiety, but nothing's really growing so it's only making me even more anxious. I'm getting stressed and pissed because I can't figure out what the hell the reason for it not growing is. I see one little "spot", on like 3 of the 6 jars that appeared a day or two ago, and since then, they haven't expanded, there's been no change... I have no idea. I just want it to fucking grow already.
I have absolutely no clue as to why the hell it's not growing, but I'm seriously getting annoyed at this point.

(Kidna venting. Rough day)
