First post / ID request California East bay area
    #26463021 - 02/01/20 03:46 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hello all . First would like to say thank to to those selflessly taking the time to ID these specimens for the ignorant.  ive done more reading and observing of mushrooms in the past two years then my liberal arts collegiate academic probation status would like to lead on . Regardless I haven’t lost a bit of interest in these fungi and what there capable of. The mushrooms below where all collected together from the same rotted wood log (all connected by the same mycelial mass) , we haven’t been getting as much rain as normal here in California ( particularly East Bay Area ) but the soil around fruiting site was very soft and moist in dense oak canopy. Temps average 45-65 f probably lower under canopy

Habitat:
Deciduous woods , mixed fallen rotting oaks

Gills: attached unequal, brown

Stem: silky white (with spore stains) hollow and breaks with clean snap. All seem to be average .5cm in diameter

Cap:dark brown when harvested, as drying fading inside to outer cap straw color . Ranges in 2-5cm in diameter. Some of the maturer fruit are straw color prior harvest.

Spore print color: brown with purple Hue

Bruising: none

Other:

Spore print photos where taken within 2 hours of harvest, can take better pics if necessary. All pictured mushrooms except #5 where found growing underside rotting wood in one solid brick.

Kinda looks like Coprinellus. Maybe something in the Coprinellus micaceus group. The clustered growth, spore print and Psathyrelloid look all match.

Don’t say thanks quite yet... Wait for a second opinion from a TI. I’m averaging like a C+, maybe.

Thank you all . Although I’d be ecstatic to find some “active” fungi. I’m really trying to know and understand all aspects of my local mycology. Again much appreciation for your knowledge and effort.
