Fruiting light help
    #26462943 - 01/31/20 11:50 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hey all, probably going to start fruiting my first tub in a few days. Could I use natural light that comes in through windows to fruit? Or should I put up some panda paper to cover windows and use a grow light? Also it’s been about a week since I started colonizing my tub, should I start fruiting earlier or wait till the top is 100% covered in mycelium? Thanks

I usually get 1-2 dry oz off my qts of oats but I'm trying rye again cuz i can get them at a feed store again. They are a seasonal buy from my local feed store, so they get them now but its 21$ for 50lb, so about twice what i pay for oats, either way 50lb lasts me a while.

Thanks for the info, also I’m growing golden teachers. About how many days till fruiting is complete? I don’t want to pick them too early or too late. How will I know if I fruit the shrooms for too long?

Mainly just get them once they start breaking their veils, if you wait to long you will have spores all over lol, not the end of the world but not nice to look at either. These are pretty bad, I should have gotten them a few days sooner.

Cool, thanks. are those still edible or do you have to trash them if that happens

Nah its just spores they won't hurt you, but they just don't look as appealing as mush not covered in spores. I think I just concentrated those and made gummies out of them.

Is it ok to turn lights on for like 2 minutes a night to check progress of fruiting? It won’t ruin anything will it? It’s just im not usually awake when it’s light outside and I’m using natural light from the window to grow them.

Yea it won't hurt them if you leave the lights on, i do think a regular light cycle is beneficial though. From  the sounds of it you are using natural light thats more than enough. Cubes are pretty tough they can take alot and keep right on going. As long as they have good surface conditions they are pretty much set. They fruit when they are ready regardless if you are or not lol.
