Newbie curious about contamination
    #2646271 - 05/06/04 03:30 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I was just curious...

I know that pressure cookers are the only way to go, but I'm just curious...

They tell us to boil our baby's bottle nipples in boiling water to sterilize them. I'm just wonderin' why this doesn't work for jars, etc???

And should we be putting our nipples in pressure cookers?

(LoL... no, not THOSE nipples, guys! heeheee!):nut:

'Sterilize' is often a misused word.  Maybe folks actually 'pasteurize' baby bottle nipples
Because of its smooth, synthetic nature, boiling is going to be more effective on plastic nipples than it is with any grain.

Try making a search on "fractional sterilization", this is also in the FAQs. The process is can be described by boiling the jars several times, it makes sense and you don't need a PC.

And yeah, Sun, a friend of mine mentioned that, pasteurization...

Thanks guys... I'll do some more reading now!
