Auron was an awesome character and super useful in combat, but did not like him in the same "way" as my appreciation for the execution on Lulu
this goes back to the series and aesthetic choices as the games evolved FF6 had some pretty story-integral mecha and the like but FF7 moved the series into a sort of post-industrial setting in contrast to the high fantasy setting the earlier titles had and with that, character design became a substitute for class design
Tifa, in my opinion, really executes the sort of dressed-down style of the monks she is representing her clothing is simple in design, and her focus is her mobility with extra weighting on her hands and feet for punches and kicks in a sort of dirty fighting style associated with the slum life she is in
Lulu, in a similiar manner, is prolly my favourite execution of adapting the Black Mage style into the post-industrial post-modern world FFX was running in

really nice artistic decisions here in my opinion

Won't fight you per se IX was my favourite of the Playstation era because it kept everything Square learned about working in 3D and went back to the high fantasy design
IX in a lot of ways reminds me of a homage to VI Zidane and Locke are pretty analogous as characters in the Thief class role and Garnet/Dagger shares a sort of common story with Terra in terms of connection to the game's relative summons Kuja is nowhere near the mad genius of Kefka, but he plays a similiar role in being adjacent to the royalty in the early game before pursuing godhood in the later game
Triple Triad (FFVIII) was a much better card game tho

I never got far into X-2. It just wasn't enjoyable to me for some reason.

Fun fact I have never played 7
I've always felt funny about this cause its like hella gamer taboo. I love rpgs, its kinda nuts I never got around to playing it. I even saw the ff7 movie advent children.
FF IX though was my first FF game and still my fav, still need to finish it. I have all my saves tho. I have so many unfinished games. I think I like ff12 (also unfinished) more than 10. I blame Tidus.
