heating the fruiting chamber
    #2646158 - 05/06/04 05:10 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

My friend's great grandfather has his fruiting chamber in his bedroom. He is having trouble keeping the temperature inside the chamber above 70 degrees. He doesn't want to use a light since it will interupt his sleep, so he was wondering if he could adapt a verticle aquarium heater in any way to do the job...

it looks like this:

any suggestions?

My friends great grandfather rents, and doesn't have control of the heat...

so, he can just drop that sucker in a beaker and set the whole thing into the chamber?

Put a fish tank heater in a cup like I did. Turn it on and watch it so that you can set the temp accurately.

great, he added the heater to a rubbermaid sport drink holder and the temp has shot up to 80 degrees....He put the heater on a timer - on for 2 hours and off for 2 hours...He figures that the hot water will need time to cool off.

also, there's condensation now which didn't appear before with his cool mist...

Is water dripping on the mycelium as much of a threat as itipping on the fruits?

ok - the heat was up into the low to mid 80's for about a couple hours now...has damage been done??...he took the heater out...

jesus, the temperatures he had before applying a heater were high 60's to low 70's...this is ok??....I swear someone said that temps should be in the 80's....
