I've been waiting 73 days since inoculation and now I think my monotub might be contaminated. FML

Is it going to be ok? Corner looks green to me.

Well I would need more information to diagnose the issue. I would spray that corner with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide and cut a large section of that corner out with a nice clean knife. Also if you can fruit it in a garage or outdoors somehow so as to not contaminate your grow space that would be much better.

Took forever to colonize because I didn't shake up the syringe when innoculating.
3 3 pound grain bags colonized in around 66 degrees. Probably why it took so long.
The substrate is just straight coco choir.

I think it dryed out because I cracked the lid during colonization based of the philosophy of bodhi's unmodified tub tech.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22337800/fpart/1/vc/1

I didn't mist it for along time after it was fully colonized because I assumed full colonization would mean that the whole tub from top to bottom would be covered in white mycelium and I assumed u aren't supposed to mist until it's pinning. I Also have been trying to heat it with a space heater because I thought it would help speed things up from the freezing temperatures It's been trying to survive in.

Don't spray with iso or peroxide. And certainly don't cut anything off the sub.:facepalm3: The area you find suspicious looks like bruising from lack of moisture. Give the entire sub a mist with water. If the sub is contaminated, it is going to stay that way no matter what you do. The best thing you the cultivator can do is just leave it the fuck alone and let it do its thing while maintaining proper conditions.

Should I mist the sub directly?
I thought it's only recommended to mist the walls of the tub? Is it ok to spray the sub directly in emergencies like this?

Even not shook as long as spores actually make it in its fine. More spores doesn't mean faster. 4 small drops in four corners is faster than a whole syringe in one spot.

Premade bags of grain are fail

Inoculating grain directly with syringes is a guarantee to toss out at the least one in ten jars/bags on average.

With that said there's nothing wrong (yet)
It looks dry.
No green mold

Don’t do anything until the contaminate really shows itself. I do see a spot that looks like sporulating mold but I could be wrong.

Best way to avoid this in the future, and to avoid waiting over 2 months for fruits? Start culturing on agar and practice your sterile technique. Using syringes for inoculation usually ends in less than desirable results.

Bruising from dry conditions. Mist lightly. Dont do anything drastic, for ms to pre sterilized grains I’m impressed but thats definitely a terrible methodology, even if it does work occasionally.

66will slow things down but a direct spCe heater will dry things out, point it away from tub in same room and try to keep at 70f

Also that sub looks shallow and uneven, in dry conditions a deeper substrate (~3”) will maintain humidity better, and an even surface will lead to even evaporation which in turn leads to even pinset.

How long since you mixed with bulk sub(spawned)

A casing or a good top layer at spawn will help to stop it from drying out too. That was my main problem initially and doing a top layer/casing made a huge difference while I was learning how to dial my stuff in.

So it seems like the general consensus is that it's just dry? I don't know how long it's been fully colonized because I haven't been keeping track of time but it feels like it's been at least 2 weeks. How long does it usually take for tubs to pin after full colonization?

Yeah noone asked you that. When did you mix it with bulk sub. Should be pinning about 12-21 days from that day if its a regular cube, all is well and temps are 70-80f

Definitely not mold. The sub is bruising. I never worried about misting walls, I'm not pinning plastic. Spray a healthy bit over the tub 1-2 ft at that imaginary cat laughing at you that is hovering over the sub. Spray straight and let the mist fall. Wait a day or two and fan that bitch out. You can use a casing layer, but I'm old school. I say spray and put a layer of plastic wrap lightly on top of the sub. Remove when you see nots.

Man I hope it blows up with pins for you after waiting so long. It looks pretty healthy overall and definitely well colonized, I’m betting it goes quick once it gets mist and fresh air.

Idk how long it's been since I mixed it with the sub I haven't been keeping track of time. I only know how long it's been since I inoculated it because I have an email from Etsy saying my grain spawn arrived 74 days ago. My guess is that I mixed the grain in with the substrate about 5 weeks ago.

Probably around 65-70 degrees but for the past couple of weeks I have been running a space heater on it. I turn the space heater off at night because it gets to hot and drys it out when I'm not awake to constantly mist it.

You want to keep the room warmer than that but no direct heat, point the space heater away from the tub just keep the room warm. 65 will basically triple or quadruple time to fruiting. You shouldn't need to mist every day or multiple times a day, a monotub is meant to be set and forgot until harvest typically. Unmodded tubs require a bit more fiddling but I wouldnt flip the lid or open at all until fruiting started. give it one good mist and put the lid all the way on if its drying out. Keep your temps above 68 and ideally somewhere around 72.
