Allowing for CO2 Buildup?
    #2645684 - 05/06/04 01:30 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Hi,

I've got this friend of a friend who's growing gourmet mushrooms by casing, and he was reading that there's a few things that trigger pinning: about a 10 degree drop in temperature, introduction to light, and introduction to fresh oxygen (because you're supposed to allow for a little buildup of CO2 right after you case, right?).

So... he's also read that you're supposed to patch the casing layer where the mycelium starts coming through the fastest. The trays are wrapped in aluminum foil, so he can't see into them without removing the foil. How is he supposed to maintain the CO2 buildup? Is it really that big of a factor, or would it be more important to see if he needs to patch?

Thanks,
My friend of a friend

You need to be abel to see whats going on ...patching gives you a lot better pinset which should give you more yield on a 1st flush...
I have 3 casings that are going on day 4 so i will fan the co2 out and put the covers back on until they are ready to fruit
