My room temp averages at 61f INCUBATE?
    #26459662 - 01/30/20 06:13 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

I have a jar of cube myc on grain that is growing but it's very cold here.

The growth is very slow for the cubes. Too slow for what I'm used to growing in in Florida.

I'm going to figure out a way to get my temps up to 75f so I can speed things up.

I also have oyster myc that is doing just fine cause they love 54-70f

So my question is. How do I make an incubator. Was thinking about getting a closet type thing and putting a light in the produces enough heat to get it to 70-75f. This is just for my cubes.

I live in the andes mountain range higher than 3200m (10000+ft)

Put a heater in your incubation room

I grow at 70 as higher than that is the contamination free for all area.  Just heat the room up its as cheap as building an incubator, adding a heat mat, bells, whistles ect

Add a space heater to your grow room. Incubation almost always allows nasties to grow. Face the space heater in a corner towards the door and away from your work and you should be golden, you only need to add 9 more degrees. Directly heating any of your work is going to give you trouble.

contams allow contams to grow not incubators. they need to be there to grow so 60 or 75 it wouldn't matter if it's contaminated. the problem with most is people want to go the easy route and shove a 20 dollar heat mat under jars and dry their grain out and cause a lot of condensation.
my room is about 64 right now so I have my jars in totes with a blanket and they sit around 70 doing just fine

Maybe an argument that can be put up here is that if you have a no fatal contamination warmer temps give that the edge to grow more when you want as much healthy spawn as you can get in a fukked jar.  Ive heard this spouted on here for years and you are right its never really been poo pood for what ive seen.  However we need to bring into the equation that sometimes whats happening in a jar is a race to colonise grains and if you get it right you can beat mold to it.

jars...not so much, it's our sterile environment. fruiting subs however you certainly can give contaminates an edge.
I see the thought process around here all too often and it is sad, people catering to what a contam wouldn't like rather then cater to what your growing would prefer.
dryer substrates colder temps ect

A bit off thread, but what ever happened to RR?
I recall reading some posts about him leaving the Shroomery, is this true?

I did a search on this, but nothing came up

I always try to include a little bacteria when I inoculate jars because I want the mycelium to have to work for their food. No free rides here.

There is a theory that certain types of bacteria can be benificial, especially when growing stones but meaning to do it lol?

Ah, thanks for the reference.

Sad to join the Shroomery after his reduced appearances, but am very thankful his contributions live on.
I've learned a ton from him and his direct teaching style through reading past posts.
Thanks RR, wishing you well, and hope to make you proud.

Lmfao that's gotta be the funniest thing I've heard in a min on here. I know you are joking or maybe you are serious 0_o

How do you chose to include bacteria? Gleeking in the jar? Lol

I've had a jar or 4 beat out contams.

It's comforting to know cubes are powerful guys.

Also edmunter no need to be sorry about "jacking the thread"

I don't feel it was jacked. Any discussion is good discussion. I love this community.
