Do you respect the rules of the road? 3

So ya, this is another post of mine about driving.
As the title says, Do you respect the rules of the road?
What I mean is, are you a good driver ?
Do you use your turning signal or do you slow down and turn without giving any warning to the driver behind you ?
Do you use the fast lane to pass a driver and then get back over? Or do you go slow in the fast lane and cause other drivers to get stuck behind you who are actually trying to get where they are going ?
Do you use a merge lane correctly ? Or do you come to a complete stop when there is a whole lane for you to turn into ?
Do you keep your brights on when another car is passing you ? Or do you use your brain ?
These are things that we all deal with everyday. So I guess I’m trying to find out , which one of you are part of the problem or who actually understands how driving works.
I spend a lot of time on the road so these are things I notice often. I know I’m missing a few things but I’m just trying to see who doesn’t respect the rules of the road.
And if I missed any unacceptable behavior. Please feel free to add.

I'm not great at driving, but I try to be a really good driver in terms of all that kind of stuff. I always use my blinkers, always keep a safe distance between me and the car in front of me, etc. In general I try to do everything the way its supposed to be done, mainly just because I'm not a great driver so I'm trying really hard to be safe and cautious in most situations to avoid accidents.
I generally avoid the fast lane unless I'm going seriously fast or passing, etc. I actually prefer the slow lane unless there's some guy going under the speed limit. I let people in the vast majority of the time if they're merging, or if someone wants into my lane I almost always slow down and let them in.
But if there's no one around, I absolutely do not come to a full and complete stop at a stop sign. I slow down a lot, but I just roll on through if there's no one around.
I do speed a bit, but just a regular amount on freeways and stuff like that. 10-15 over in a 65, that kind of thing.
Some people get annoyed at how cautious of a driver I am, but it's just because I'm not actually that great at it and I was in a number of accidents when I was young.

I am not a Toyotadope or BMW/Audi driver. That answers your question, but for further elaboration i respect the rules ov the road with the exception ov occasional speeding with due diligence.

Well of course I do. Every ride without drugs is safe driving practice time for when I DO ride with drugs.

Absolutely.
The main reason is to avoid cops. The second main reason is i expect (or wish) other people would do that same. I hate to be "that guy" that does something reckless or stupid on the road. I try to avoid dangerous driving at all times.
Back in the day, when i used to drive without insurance to save money (dumb i know, rebel), i would drive very careful because i really wanted to avoid cops and car accidents in any way. So i was really careful. Nowadays, i drive careful just to avoid the annoying process of being pulled over by fuckin cops.
I also hardly use my brights at night. I find its easier to see without them
When on the freeway, i always move over to let other faster cars past me. I like driving alone without feeling like someones following me on my ass. Tallgaters kinda piss me off a little.
Sometimes i imagine Im racing or Im in a car chase and will slow down fast in order to pull behind a car in their lane. Its pretty satisifying.
The only part Im not a good driver is using my Hazard lights. Mine are currently broken and I havent fix it at all. So i can never use them In those situations where i need to use my blinker, i use it as an alternative.

Nice post
+1
I drive semi truck for a living, so I have a lot of road time too. I think I logged about 120,000 -130,000 miles in my work truck last year. I see and work with a shitty side of humanity every day, it's incredible how many people are terrible drivers and really have no business being behind the wheel. Most people completely change for the worse once they get into a car. A lot of people think they're good drivers, but they're really not.
I get the impression that you're a good driver though, Big Worm

I'm not perfect, but I am a pretty courteous driver. Do I follow the law to a T? Nope. For instance, I never drive the speed limit when I have open road. I'm not the kind of driver who weaves in and out of lanes just to go 10mph faster though.
You know what really pisses me off? Especially when I'm pulling a trailer.. when I'm trying to get over say to the right and there's a car in the right lane trying to get over to the left but he's behind me.. instead of it slowing down just a little bit so we both have room to switch, they'll just keep driving a little bit faster than me and take a half of a mile to get ahead of me and then switch. If you do that, I instantly label you a cocksucker.

With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. Lol, yeah. For some reason people think where I turn on my turn signal, that's a sign for them to speed up and drive right next to my tandems. It's frustrating, I'll usually start veering my trailer towards the lane I want and riding the line when they do that and that gets their attention and they back off.

I always obey the rules of the road and proper etiquette. I get annoyed by little things like people trusting their mirrors and not physically looking back to check their blindspots. I delivered car parts to dealerships for 7-8 years so racked up the mileage, got hit over 13 times by shit drivers and usually 2-3 mechanics at shops would die a year due to being stupid with project cars or things like being cut off into oncoming traffic. Driving is dangerous so you have to obey the rules and not do stupid goddamn things like texting. I can’t stand people who dick with their phone while driving, pisses me right off..

Do you respect the rules of the road? Yes and I think that because I do, and often feel I am the only one on the road doing so,I suffer from road rage behind the wheel.
What I mean is, are you a good driver ? Good road behavior, loose cannon in my mind
Do you use your turning signal or do you slow down and turn without giving any warning to the driver behind you ? I find that I use my blinker too much, even when turning into driveways
Do you use the fast lane to pass a driver and then get back over? Indeed. Keeps The Law at bay.
Or do you go slow in the fast lane and cause other drivers to get stuck behind you who are actually trying to get where they are going ? It's drivers like this that make me want to own a cross bow pistol with laser sight to shoot a sharp metal object into one of their rear tires
Do you use a merge lane correctly ? Affirmative. And I'm not one of those fuqwads that skips the line and races on to the last possible point to merge into the lane. I know one day that I will be killed by someone who I will not let in that does this to me.
Or do you come to a complete stop when there is a whole lane for you to turn into ? KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL
Do you keep your brights on when another car is passing you ? Only when I am involved in a gang initiation
Or do you use your brain ? Only until my penis takes control of my thought processes

Yes, very respectful and courteous driver here. Sometimes I'll block a person if they come up on me and are acting foolish, but that could cause a wreck, so I very rarely do that these days. I learned to drive at 11yo, so I'm a pretty good driver. Standard, big trucks/moving vans (not a semi rig though), and all kinds of vehicle sizes. I actually love driving. I had to learn patience when in traffic, and I've never been a road rager, but I will cuss a person at times, but not so much these days. The car I have now slows down automatically when it gets a certain distance from the car in front of me while I have cruise on, it's amazing!

Fuck yeah.
Drive like a boss.
Follow all the rules except speed limit. And only 5 or so over max. on the interstates.
Keep the whip maintained mechanically.
Driving is serious business. If only we could all drive like a school of fish all the time.

My least favorite drivers are usually whipping newer black smoke billowing diesel trucks with lowpro wildly aggressive looking tires and rims that look like they belong on a riced out Honda- but much bigger.
Typically this truck has never been used as a truck nor towed anything other than a plastic brightly colored ballsack that dangles near the trailer hitch receiver which has never received anything other than that NFL team logo receiver cover or perhaps a second set of truck nuts.
This driver lays on the accelerator from freshly green lights letting the turbo rip while leaving the next 20 cars that pass through the intersection in a thick black haze because the vehicle has intentionally been modified to deliver surplus fuel in order to produce the nasty sooty smoke.
You'll usually find this truck parked across 2 spots, or possibly 3 if it's a dually.
Not to mention the ultra nuclear white 90 trillion lumen headlights off amazon that have not been readjusted to compensate for the 14 inch lift kit- so your eyes melt from the reflection in your mirrors when this truck tailgates you until it passes on the shoulder while flipping you off.
This might be an amalgamation of several different drivers I've encountered over the years... but you know the type.

I generally try to move with the flow of traffic, I don't sit in the left lane, I (usually) try to give people their space, always use my turn signal, generally try not to be an asshole. Living in a city with a lot of aggressive drivers for years has had an impact on my driving for sure though. When I lived there my answer would be more of a no, but that's because you kind of have to be a dick to get anywhere in rush hour traffic .
The only thing that really grinds my gears is people who sit in the left lane. Luckily for me, due to a variety of reasons(one being lots of narrow ass roads with extremely short on ramps), I'm in a state full of people who just love to sit in the left lane going 5 under. That's a situation where I'll sometimes find myself tailgating someone until I can pass them on the right.

One can definitely still drive respectably while navigating around left laners.
A random lady I met in Yuma once drove us all the way to get weed in San Diego and back in her Geo Metro going 50 in the left lane. When I asked her why so slow in such fast lane she said because she can see the shoulder of the road better from the left lane...
I kissed the ground when we got back in one piece. Twice on the trip she mistakenly had the car in drive while she was looking behind us expecting to reverse...

Definitely not limited to just the South, unfortunately. Plenty of dumb asses who fly them well north of the mason dixon line.

I mean, as someone in a state with primarily 2 lane highways, it's legitimately a safety issue and it seriously blocks the flow of traffic.
Not that tailgating them makes it any safer. But seriously, it's a passing lane, move the hell over.

And West of the Miss'sippi.
And yes, the right lane is the right lane. It sketches me out even as the passenger when someone is in the left lane and shouldn't be. Easy way to get pulled over by highway patrol and get fucked with.
I like my drives driving. Not pulled over.

I'd say compared to how most people drive here in Utah I'm a damn good driver. No body here uses their turn signal and everyone drives like they own the road. The worst I do is maybe speed just like 5mph over the limit sometimes. But that's mostly just to keep up with the flow of traffic cause here 50mph speed limit basically means 55-60 for most people.

I try to respect the rules of the road as much as I can, yeah.
I drove as a job for like 8 years of my life, and two of those years were in Wyoming -- brutally hellish winter driving with a 4 hour (and that's in good weather) round trip 6 days a week. And those are some LONG winters, man.
So I feel like I'm a pretty solid driver.

The school bus ran a red light even though I had a green light and instead of make a head on collision with the side of the bus and smash kids up I swerved into the other lane of traffic and play chicken with the cars until I had just enough space to slice in front of the bus but he ended up hitting my rear side bumper and spinning me out on the side of the road

Because I saw a way to not be seriously injured and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna “hope for the best” instead of decide how to not be hospitalized. I seen my chances and took em, I wouldn’t be typing this there was no time to break. It was die (or be maimed severely) or swerve and chicken and swerve. Don’t be jealous I’m a badass driver
I also kept probably over 5+ kids minimum not end up with smashed bones and stuff. If you saw it you would realize “hoping for the best” was accepting death

If everyone practiced merging like a zipper... traffic would not be nearly as bad or stressful.
Stop and go on the interstate would almost never happen, even if there is a wreck in one lane. It would and probably should slow down some, but the stop and go is completely avoidable if we all could only merge properly.

“You wanna go to a karaoke bar?”
“I’m a little nervous bud. It can be scary.”
“Dude, it’ll be fine no one knows how good you are until you get up there and then I doubt any one would care.”
“Yes but neither do you and by that time it’s too late the folks are about to watch a horror film they didn’t sign up for!”

Stop and go on the interstate would almost never happen, even if there is a wreck in one lane. It would and probably should slow down some, but the stop and go is completely avoidable if we all could only merge properly.
zipper merge ftw.
A good portion of the on ramps around me having fucking stop signs on them right where you usually try to merge. It makes 0 sense to me.

Damn. Haven't seen stop signs on on-ramps, that sucks! Have seen the fast changing stop lights in CA that let a car or two go at a time and change every like 5 seconds. Don't know how well they moderate traffic, but merging is always easy. No one passing you from behind as you're merging.

Sounds like a place where people regularly get rear ended.
Just a few weeks ago I hit a very short onramp to get on the interstate and traffic slowed down quickly just as I was about to merge and had to get on the brakes pretty good. Not squealing or anything, but a decent nose dive of the front of the car. Well, the person behind me was even later in reacting and I heard a CRASH! Someone had plowed into the back of the person behind me. Sheeeeit.
It wasn't serious and no one was injured I don't think, but both cars had to be towed.
Whew. Close one.

I drove without insurance for 7 years without getting a ticket. So ya I like to follow the rules of the road.

Yeah, it's as stupid as you think.

We also have highways where you merge from the left straight into the fast lane too. We call it a 'merge or die'. Usually the on ramps are incredibly short too so, they're especially fun.
edit:
wtf I don't even know how I double posted this shit.

The DFW Texas area has it right. A lot of cities should take a blueprint of that highway system and put i over their town. It's like a hotwheels track there, so fucking amazing and useful.
Check it out people!

I do respect the rules of the road. I always use my blinker. Even though it doesn’t seem like anyone else does. I was hit with a car and killed in February 28 of this year. (Just a few seconds but whos counting?)
If that person had even thought for 1 second. To use their turn signal. Maybe they would’ve seen me in the crosswalk with the little guy telling me it was safe to walk… I was on a scooter and had a helmet on otherwise. I would be dead. Too bad more people don’t drive like us man. RIP Shroomery legend Big Worm
