Oyster mushrooms solid as a rock: What to do?

I have been growing blue oyster mushrooms according to eat's awesome grocery bag tek for the past 2 1/2 weeks. I was growing lovely soft blue mushrooms, until I left for 3 days and wasn't able to mist them at all. When I got back they were dry, hard, and brown. 2 weeks of misting later and they've only gotten worse. Could I salvage a good second fruit from this? How could I clone these mushrooms? I chucked my only spore syringe of them.
Thank you guys.

Oh man that sucks :/. I dont think there is any slavaging that. What you could do is try and swab up spores and clean them up via agar.

Just clean the mushrooms off the substrate and continue misting and wait for the 2nd flush. Sub isn't hard as a rock too is it?

Would I be better cloning it from the inside that wasn't exposed to the open air like the spores were?
You have a beautiful pit bull.

The dog in my sig os actually a friends Staffordshire bull terrier, shes trained to hunt mushrooms! I have a pitbull who shares the same name and is mostly black
The above poster had a good point. Is your substrate as solid as the fruits? I know my last blue oysters died after not a whole lot of neglect as well. If substrate still has moisture to it and is still alive you might be able to get away with culturing up some on agar.
Cutting into the substrate to get your tissue would be best, as you said. Youre not really getting a clone, per say but multiplying the spawn. Best to do under a flow hood if youve got one. My friend lets me use his and I never want to do still air box work again!

Wow. That's an impressive dog.
When you say clone the tissue, do you mean mix the mulch spawn with more mulch, let it colonize, and then fruit?

I was talking about making an agar plate and expanding mycelium you pull from the center of your substrate. If the substrate is still viable that is.
Here is some info to get you staryed on agar culturing. https://www.shroomery.org/13865/Agar

Thank you.
I thought I read up on agar but never heard about putting the mycelium from colonized substrate on agar. I think I'll try this along with cloning the mushroom itself or taking a spore print to agar.
