They came to me bearing gifts. Fungus mites.

Fuckers got me too but I’ve been doing regular deep cleans, putting new transfers into a newly bleached or iso wipes place and trying to be careful about cross contaminating anything and I think I got in front of them. Only lost one jar and one bag since I caught the initial outbreak a couple months ago, and the jar was on the same shelf as the donor jar for the bags were. Must have g2g’d it in, or maybe one dropped from the outside of another jar. Feeling pretty good about it after adding silicone seals or plastic wrapping all my plastic lids.

Nice I was wondering how that was going. Do you still see them anywhere or do you think they're gone? I don't think they have very long if a lifespan. Few months maybe, idk, I know more about snake mites.

I just bumped the thread with an update. Theyre maybe still around but minimal and I’m still making steps to minimize any issues they may cause. Being extra generous with the iso and sweeping a couple times a week, no more open jars with a couple grain in the lab and moved grain storage to a pickle barrel outside.

So I'm not positive this works for those mites but snake mites can't swim so sometimes ppl will put a tub in another tub with water in the bottom like a moat. This keeps quarantined animals from spreading things and you can see them floating on the water. Might provide a safe space to colonize.

The other thing is their thermal death limit is low esp for the eggs. You can use a hair dryer to kill eggs up inside hard to reach places like humidifiers or any where else you find them congregating. Works well for my snake hides and water bowls.

How they got into your jars is part of why I started using press-n-seal wrap to seal the gap around my lids. Paranoia. Just some alternatives to insecticides. I know you'll show those fuckers who's boss.

I’m using silicone seals on the inside of the lid.. metal lids have a pretty decent seal but I β€œupgraded” all mylids to the white plastic ball lids with sfd’s so now I use the seals or plastic wrap if Theyre all in use but I bought like 196 of the fuckers so that hasnt happened yet lol.

I bought the cheapest ones I could find on amazon, They were like 48 for 12$ So i got two packages of each wide and reg mouth. You have to stretch them out a little so they stay stuck up in the lid. ~1/20 will fall out while doing g2g’s and i just plastic wrap those ones instead. The only other issue is sometimes they pop open a little in pc and have to be tightened down or you accidently open the jar trying to pick it up, if you open in the flow or are careful you dont lose any but its noteworthy. Overall I’d say I’m happy with them. But they do add a couple extra steps I’d rather not have to deal with. Have been considering using plastic wrap for all my jars because it might be easier but these work so I’ll probably keep using them.

It has been my experience that those plastic lids are trash... I used them for year and struggled with contamination issues... I think the lids do not seal properly so I definitely agree with using Parafilm or some other sealing product around the lid to jar area. Good Call on that one.

No. That's a lavender/fire Florida King. That was a baby pic, I need to take more pics of her. Here's a brand new gene I have siblings from, it called a Golden. Couple more years and I'll be able to produce them, these aren't even available anywhere. This is Grandma and she's wild caught. Got lucky and one of my breeders is just learning mush cult and my other breeder hooked me up with a breeding pair for mush.

↑All my last pitris look like this with myc growing under the surface. I took t1's and it's growing weird too. Gonna start new ones tonight from print. Also gonna take new t1's from untouched germ plates and see what's going on.

Anyone have ideas why myc decides to tunnel instead of ride the surface? I'm assuming these are bacterial or bc I streaked to deep into the agar. Usually it surfaces but none of these ever did...

Searching for nutes, if you change media it usually helps. I notice that kind of growth around t7-8 starts to show up. First noticed it with a clone I had been running for years, would be funky then look fine on grain, put a piece of grain to pda instead of lme and it looked fine again.

I added silicone seals to my plastic lids when I modded the lids with SFD patches instead of using the whole discs (had they pass contams when wet a few times).  The plastic lids alone don't really seal.  Also they'd be a bitch to get off sometimes if screwed too tight.  The silicone seals fix all that.  So yeah, worthwhile.

Are they able to be tightened down while pcing with the seals or do they still warp?
