First grow is going well!

My first attempt at growing mushrooms! strain: B+ method: two 66qt monotubs with 5 lbs manure-based substrate in each 6 lbs colonized grain, 3 per tub
I started with 6 bags (1 lb each) and all of them made it with no visible contamination! Exciting!
What's even more exciting is that they really seem to be taking off now that pins are pushing up. It took a lot of research and patience to get to this point but it's clearly been worth it. Shoutouts to this forum for all the generous users willing to share knowledge and experience. I'll be sure to update when it's time for harvest.
Grain bags, fully colonized:

Mixing colonized grain with the substrate:

First pins! (12 days after mixing, 10 after adding casing layer):

Aerial view of pins 2 days after first appearing:

What they look like today:

Good job on the first grow! Pin stems look very long with smallish caps. Is this indicative of low FAE/temps too high or a genetic thing?

I'm not certain! I'll look into this to be sure but it doesn't look much different than other B+ grows I looked up. Keep in mind my eye is still untrained.

My eyes are untrained too, it’s fun to learn.
I’m also growing B+ and my pins are fat and stumpier. But who knows what they really are, and there is so much variation:

Pin set update! Jan 30, 2020

I've done further research and I do believe the hunch about FAE to be accurate. I also see what appears to be "fuzzy feet" at the base of some pins (another indicator of low FAE). To address this I've adjusted the density of my lower polyfil while the top fills have always been loosely packed. I've also set a small computer fan that I salvaged from a Dell Optiplex spliced into a usb cord for power nearby to increase air circulation in the room. Temps have remained a steady 70 Fahrenheit through the entire process.

Seems like FAE is the answer to most things. And your pinset looks good, in regards to how many and they are spread all over the place.
Also appreciate your creativity with the computer fan. I love that you're repurposing what you already have.

Weekend update! (02-02-2020)
Adjusting the polyfil density and keeping the Dell fan on during the day (not aimed directly at tubs) seems to have helped the existing fruits bulk up!

I picked a few of the bulb-headed mutants and gave my food dehydrator a test run. Cracker dry! Nice!

Thanks again for the resources available here and for the positive feedback! Wouldn't have been possible otherwise! I'm (micro)dosing for the first time now and my body is vibing so nicely!
More updates to come as flushes continue!

Looking good, fatter now and nice shaped caps. Adding a fan (not directed at the tubs but in the room to create air flow) really helped me too.
Keep up the good work!

First harvest update! 02-03-2020
I walked in on the first fruits about to pop their veils today and sure enough they had done so a few hours later. I went ahead and harvested the most mature fruits from tub 1 and they're drying as we speak! Success!

I expect to harvest the rest of flush1/tub1 in the next day or two. Tub 2 started a few days later and the fruits are growing more evenly. They'll be in the near future also.

Nice those caps are cool looking.
I bet your second flush has some giants with more air from the start.

Crazy that your bags did not get funky considering how low of a success rate syringes to grain have. Unless it was liquid inoculate. Congrats!

Flush 2 is coming in nicely with beefier fruits!

The growth seemed to concentrate in the side of the tubs closest to the window on the far side of the room (the source of light cycle). Another factor to consider is the possibility of better FAE on that side. Interesting.

Decided to pluck the fruitier side of tub 1 for immediate drying. I'll let the remaining %20 fruit a bit further before doing the same.

I've decided to take the advice given previously in the thread and swap to micropore tape for my next two tubs. I'll likely use it to fruit out the rest of these two also. Interested to see if there's any difference versus how I pack my polyfil now. Time will tell!

Thank you for all the kind words! I appreciate the support.
The rest of flush 2 is in and the dry weight is juuuust shy of 3 oz. Tub 2 started as the underdog but it ended up fruiting so prettily.
