How music culture shows that major change is coming in the U.S. * 2
    #26458697 - 01/29/20 03:25 PM (4 years, 5 hours ago)

Ok, let me state that I'm no scholar, but I have an innate ability to see things from a different perspective.

If you pay attention, radio really started this trend many years ago and it continues to this very day.

Certain kinds of music were target at specific types of people. It was an early form of social conditioning, which led to targeted marketing, which further divided the two.

Another form of divide and conquer if you will.

Since I'm talking about generalities within a society, there will always be exceptions to these rules, but, for the most part, they hold true.

Country music was aimed at low-income rural people, and R&B was aimed at low-income urban people.

Rock and roll was such a big controversy back in the day because it tried to take R&B (urban music) mix it with a little country (rural music) and make something new.

This upset the hierarchy that was trying to control our society. They used all kinds of smear campaigns to shame anyone listening to Rock and Roll ... yet Rock became wildly popular.

Those at the top had no choice but to accept this and try to use it as another way to control people.

Look at how chaotic our society was during the birth of Rock and Roll. I won't go into the specifics, but everyone knows the social upheaval that went along with Rock.

Now, today we have two polar opposite kinds of music, Country, and Rap (the extreme form of R&B). And those in the middle who listen to Rock. In general, those who listen to Country music would never listen to Rap music, and vice versa. The two opposites may listen to some Rock from time to time, but primarily stick to their preferred genera.

Politicians have manipulated these groups for years now, constantly pitting one against the other, maintaining chaos in the society.

Now, while our society is at its most chaotic (again) and may very well be on the verge of a civil war, at the very least an uprising, we have a blending of the two opposites again. Not just a mild mixture either, but a strong blending of the two genres. Strong twangy country strings mixed with some slow catchy Rap Beats and Bars.

I must be honest; I never saw this coming

When I first heard it, I thought it was a parody, a joke.

The more I looked into it, the more it seems to be a legitimately popular song. (I don't listen to much main stream music/media, I don't even have a Netflix or Amazon account) I have to admit, it is likable. I thought it was a pretty good attempt at mixing the two.

This makes me think that society is not as divided as is shown on the Main Stream Media.

Maybe this next uprising will be aimed at getting our government away from the corporations who have taken it from us over the years.

Perhaps there is some hope around the corner.

Show me where I said that music dictated anything, just that it was a reflection of how society, at large feels at a given time.

When rap first came out, several different genres of music played around with it, but none of them were highly popular within both groups.

At least not the way it seems to be today with Old Town Road, but I could be mistaken.

Some of the Beastie Boys stuff comes to mind, but they were really the only ones that crossed over that had any leg that was listened to by both rock and rap/hip-hop fans.

The others were just one-hit wonders/flash in the pan kinda things.

We may be looking at the same thing here.

I just thought it was an interesting phenomenon to observe.

The Jailbird is back :yesnod:

It would seem that Country-Rap is finally becoming mainstream. Ive also heard some Country on Pop stations so in general, Country is becoming more popular.

Fusion Genres are the shiiz nit! Im always excited to hear something new come out from two genres mashing up.

See, this is actually the song I was thinking about when I wrote this.

Then Old Town Road came out; more evidence of (like you said) a blending of cultures, despite mainstream media's attempt at keeping us divided.

Music was not ā€˜aimed’ at specific groups of people, it’s just the type of music they like. Music starts at the bottom not the top, remember. It starts in a basement joking around or in a park or while working BS jobs and eventually grows to a style that becomes popular. Good theory but you didn’t think it though. Genres are blending because the world is out of shit...were fucked to be honest. It honestly points to the end of times, or perhaps we rediscover what has been forgotten. But hasn’t that already happened? There will never be another music genre. Those of you alive in 60s-90s congratulations you were the luckiest generation of human beings that have lived.

Jazz never existed? Blues?

Rap is the extreme form of R&B? They’re pretty damn different.

That’s how it reads. I mean, OF COURSE music reflects society, but the same can be said about any number of things: art, fashion, comedy, film, etc.

I thought you were making a case for ā€œlife imitates artā€.

The reason most people ignore modern country music is because it's absolute garbage. It panders so hard to some made up image of what living in rural America is like. Rap, which is a form of rock and roll (as is all modern country music), grew out of an honest reality relatively recently, something like 40 years ago. Country music grew honestly as well, but it did so in the 20's and 30's. Those realities are long gone.

So when you compare country music and rap music the obvious conclusion is that yeah, they are fairly opposed. Country music is not based on reality whereas rap has recent roots in society.

What I meant by being polar opposites is that in one genre, country, an image of home roots, family history, and a loving, caring community is talked about, while in rap/hip-hop, an image of no roots to call 'home', family issues and how society looks upon them in a negative way is discussed.

Two completely different world views are expressed in these genres; the real-life expressions of rural and urban poverty. With rural poverty shown to be more wholesome and desirable than urban poverty.

Politicians have used clever campaign slogans and policies to pit one group against the other, making one group believe that all of their troubles in life are due to the other social group.

Poor white people are told that all of society's woes are because of black and brown people.

Non-white people are taught to see white people as the aggressor, and the root of their problems.

When really, both groups are being manipulated (by the system) to hate each other instead of directing their anger at the ones doing the manipulating.

With the recent mixing of the two musical genres, the main-stream media portrayal of hatred between the two communities is (mostly) just a myth. Both groups understand (at least partly) that they have more in common with each other than they do with the "elites" who have worked to pit one against the other; by subjugating one and keeping the other in poverty.

Interesting view on the subject of mainstream popular music. Seems like an artist will change their music once a contract with a big record company is made as well.

I can't watch at the moment, but not all music/art will fit a specific genre.

These concepts take time to become a cohesive 'thing' within a society. With a majority of them never gelling into a 'thing' that could be called a genre. They're just a unique form of art that can't fit into a 'box'

None of them are actual real 'things' either but concepts and ideas, and, as such, can't conform to a specific shape or form. That's why there are always exceptions to the 'rules' surrounding these concepts.

Wait, did that make sense or am I just really high lol

I'm on board here until you talk about genres blending. Then I'm off again.

The roots of all these musics do begin at the bottom, me also thinks, Led.

Maybe the cause and effect are flip flopped.

Has music not spoken more on behalf of the people and the art of music itself, and against the various systems of politicians- as opposed to coming under the influence of politicians to control the people?

Especially Rock music.

I think what is happening with the people is shaping the brunt of the music. There's a million microcosms of groups of people just like you and your groups of people out there all doing the same shit as each other. What you do and where you live and where you're from and what you've experienced all shape your musical tastes. That is then echoed out from the musicians that pop up amongst the regular folks and it resonates with at least some people going through the same shit in other microcosms of people. Whether it's throwing hay bales and drinking from mason jars, liking big butts and being honest about it, smoking in the boys room.... whatever genre... but anyway. I fucking forgot where this was all going so I'm just gonna send it.

I agree that I used aimed wrong ... in that regard.

However, each specific group had different concepts targeted (aimed) at them, because of the kind of music they listened to.

Their flavor of art was weaponized to sell certain ideas (and products of course) to each group.

Selling products to certain groups is just clever marketing tho, right?
What else should we expect in a Capitalistic Society?

But ...

Isn't the marketing of different ideals to different social groups, to elicit a specific response (social discord) a kind of social engineering?

A lot of jam music hardly has lyrics. Hard to make that marketable outside of getting ripped and enjoying some tunes.

Country + Rap =  Crap

Both are mostly cookie cutter songs made with a computer that require no actual musicians. More so rap than country.

Peep this out and you'll get an idea what I am saying.

Country and rap have followed the exact same path, both started by real musicians who went through real shit and wrote about it. They really lived that life and their music was good and now both genres music quality is down/poppy and the artists aren’t true. Same with rock music although a little different; there were only a few bands that really threw TVs out windows or stuck fishes in girls pussies

And you’re right if you’re talking about pop music, that comes from the top which is why I don’t listen. They literally have teams of writers to write stupid lyrics that sell.

Hmmmm.... I am no fan either.  I can't help by wonder why one wouldn't take the few minutes required to sit on their ass and watch , listen and ponder the point layed out before you.
Yet seem to be able to muster up the energy to make a post to make sure everyone knows that they are too lazy to watch the vid in the first place.

And what's up with people putting 420 in their handle?

Isn't that Hitler's Bday?

I had heard rumors that the pub was meet up place for hate mongering white supremacists , but had always dismissed it as people with over active imaginations.

Now I am not so sure.

As I am constantly seeing people with Hitler's Bday in their handle.

I didn't start this thread to watch every video that someone posts.

It wasn't a competition to see who can post the coolest mix nor was it a request for examples of what others believe to be examples of this phenomenon. Sharing and comparing videos wasn't the point of this thread at all.

If you believe that was the point, then I apologize, I should have been more clear in my OP.

I was just trying to show that society is not as divided as the MSM wants us to believe, and gave an example of how art (music) can express this lack of divisiveness.

Those that wanted to discuss this in a civil manner are encouraged to do so ...

Those who want to nitpick how I reply to my own thread can GTFO to OTD

I’m not really sure what your main point is. It seemed like in first post you were basically saying music has been targeted at certain groups to divide us?

Well , if you had taken 1 minute to remove your Cabeza from your Culo.... You might have recognized that it wasn't about the coolest mix.

It was about how generic and formulated it has become.

As far as GTFO to OTD ,  This is an open forum. If you don't like that , maybe you should sit at home and text yourself back and forth all night. Then you won't have to worry about someone putting their 2 cents in.
