The real number is probably in the tens of thousands right now, because there is a 2-3 week incubation to this, during which people are already spreading the virus, so, the people who are rushed into medical care now contracted it a few weeks ago.
Given the exponential curve, the large majority probably still is asymptomatic.
Tripsurfer, its still possible ordering mouth masks and nitrile gloves at local medical supply webshops. People here are completely asleep. Together they cost less than 15 bucks for 50 masks and 100 gloves. Toss in a fresh bottle of bleach and you got a kit.
The gloves are necessary as with most flus and colds, touching something an infected person touched is a main way to contract the virus that is often overlooked. This can be the elevator button, with you scratching your nose 15 minutes later.

Koods, yup, and while we are 2 days after the graph was made, there now are as much confirmed cases in the chinese province where it broke out, as in the ENTIRE WORLD 2 days ago, which shows that when it gets someplace, it is virulent as all hell.
Of all the foreign cases, what about the ones in the 2-3 week incubation period, who were not yet sick but contagious, and the other passengers in the plane?
It spreads with the ease of the comon cold, we are essentially fucked.

We are in very close proximity to china. 2-3 weeks incubation means there are more than those figures for sure.
Went to the store w/ family and I pickup bleach. informative incase somebody needs a hand. Those gloves are a must.

Spirit Guide says:
Something had to happen. The havoc mankind wreaks outward had to return back inward. A nuclear holocaust would have greatly increased the burden upon the ecosystem. It would have to be something that directly affects mankind, directly reduces its destructive process and with it, ease the burden on the environment. That something, is Coronavirus 2019-nCoV, a century after the Spanish Flu.
Forget everything you had planned. This will take priority fast over anything you had planned. Humanity is entering a crisis period. Expect this northern hemisphere winter to be the winter of the Great Pandemic.
China has a large diaspora. Chinese wil scramble towards their relatives abroad and will be infectious during the asymptomatic period. For the death toll of the pandemic, there could be no worse point of origin than China.
Mouth masks. Gloves. Desinfectant. Essential foods to be able to camp out at home when infection is sweeping the streets. Expect it to reach your town and prepare accordingly. Water, electricity, society will not break down but it will be advantageous to make preparations to withdraw from it, to have protective means for mingling and have cough lozenges and OTC medications for the airways, against allergy and aspirins capable of suppressing high fevers in case disease strikes the home.
Expect this disease to become a very big deal, fast. Expect mutations to occur in the months until vaccines become available.
Something big had to happen to drive humanity back into each other's arms.
2019-nCoV is part of this process, the perfect storm to turn the tide on humanity's destructive path. Humbled, the survivors will mend their ways.
As much as I like to get you on your hind legs, I'm afraid this is not a drill. This is the literal crisis I had you prepare for through all my metaphorical scenarios.
Deal with it.

We're the first ones heading for the lifeboats because we realized that godawful sound we heard was nothing good.
Might want to pick up ibuprofen or naproxen because it not just decreases fevers but also reduces inflammation, and pneumonia is inflammation of the lungs. Also get antihistamine travel sickness pills (really antiallergy/anti nausea) because they offer relief with colds and flu. Might pick up 100gr or so of acetylcysteine (thank you Koraks!) and while you are at it, a kilo or so of vitamin c. Cough Lozenges, like Anta Flu Classic, to smoothen the airways and help you expectorate.

5578 known, 131 dead, 107 recovered - 4 in France, 4 in Germany!
Positive note is that the % of recovered patients is gaining on the deceased patients, showing that the natural duration of the infection is becoming apparent and that the death rate turns out to be lower than what it seemed.
Negative note for the Euros is that France gained another positive and the 1 in Germany quadrupled at once.

This video looked into a group of 41 patients, median age 49, that reported in.
Incubation time was about 2 weeks, then 8 days till shortness of breath by pneumonia, mortality rate was 15%, 6 patients, of which 1 without any comorbid disorders, ie a previously healthy person.
Thats VERY HIGH for something that might become a pandemic.
More info, from today, esp. regarding the US and Canada:

So I eat at a Chinese restaurant that's run by actual Chinese people for lunch multiple times a week. I suppose I should legit be a little concerned that the employees there and/or their family members could have easily just arrived to my area from China and being carrying the virus, right?

My full face respirator came in today, got the filters for it yesterday. I've stocked up on water, food, and N95's for family and friends.
