Is there a legit free way to do taxes online?

I've been using Taxact for ages an it's got worse and worse, charging more and more and getting skimpy on free abilities. Over it if possible.
I'm a simple person without any ownership of claimables, children, etc. Just straight forward day job and some nick nack side gigs.
Is there a legit free online way? Is it worth paying someone in person to help if im not very complicated?

That's too bad about TaxAct. I used to TaxAct in the past. Ive been using TurboTax lately, and it works very well. Its free for me. It might cost money if you have complex taxing going on but everything Ive done is free.

TurboTax usually tries to sell you the service if you have anything more than W-2 from work. H&R Block is free too last I knew and you can itemize some stuff.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Turbo tax works great for me. A single guy with one income.

H & R block is free for your first visit. You get an actual person at a physical office. In NY at least...

I heard an NPR story the other day that stated there is a free online tax service from the govmt website, it used to be hidden, it's more prevalent now. I think there is still about a 30 buck fee with turbotax, and H$R etc...

I used Credit Karma. It's free for both fed and state. My state isn't available yet but my fed was accepted before the official date; I think I finally made the test batch and might get my refund early.

https://www.propublica.org/article/congress-is-about-to-ban-the-government-from-offering-free-online-tax-filing-thank-turbotax
Quote:
Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee, led by Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., passed the Taxpayer First Act, a wide-ranging bill making several administrative changes to the IRS that is sponsored by Reps. John Lewis, D-Ga., and Mike Kelly, R-Pa.
In one of its provisions, the bill makes it illegal for the IRS to create its own online system of tax filing. Companies like Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, and H&R Block have lobbied for years to block the IRS from creating such a system. If the tax agency created its own program, which would be similar to programs other developed countries have, it would threaten the industry’s profits.
Filing taxes should not cost a dime, especially with the internet being widely available. For people who make over $70K, you are now required by law to use a paid service, because free services no longer exist. The only reason people who make under $70K do not need to pay, is because the tax filing lobbies needed to concede this demographic in order to corner the market entirely. They conceded that much in order to ensure full control over the tax filing system in the age of web-browser filing which is nearly cost-less to provide to everyone.
That's corruption.

Taxact has a free one I just did mine with it. Mine was pretty complex this year too. All these services try to hide their free versions, the IRS website has a list

Not true, you can still use the free version of turbotax.
