The title says it:
Please give advice on sterile & surface desinfection practices, glove use etc in the Wuhan Coronavirus thread which can be found here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26443955/
Feel free to repost any ontopic posts or TEK's there, discussing desinfectants, techniques etc, bearing in mind that the "contam" we are after this time is a rather gnarly contagious virus and we are the substrate cake.
Please shoot that thread to the moon with simple to understand, releveant advice on things pertaining to keeping from getting infected yourself, from your microbiological expertise.
Here is the situation:
Shroomery.org score very high on Google on many topics. In addition to that we are a website with an intelligent crowd of people with an expertise in microbiology, sterilizing surfaces, objects and substrates, taking protective measures for sterility's sake etc.
That thread could become a significant information resource for the general public searching for a crash course on What To Do.
Write the posts, use the words that people need, copypasta from your own work or other authors of this site (but then DO name them as the source) to add to the information capital of that thread.
In the best possible case, the world contains Wuhan Coronavirus well, and we have a role of significance in reassuring the general public. In the worst possible case, it in fact DOES become a pandemic and what you write may end up saving many lives.
I reiterate:
Quote:
-its a corona virus like SARS with probable high lethality -its contagious in the pandemic range R0 3-5 -people are contagious well before they are symptomatic -human to human contagion across 4 successive patients documented -number of confirmed cases rose 61x in the past 10 days -it has presumably spread to all continents but antartica -confirmed in north america, europe & australia (our main demographic)

Please be to-the-point, not too longwinded and not too esoteric in your language, so lay people can get into it with ease.
I believe we as the Shroomery specifically, have an expertise and google search prominence that can be useful to have a beneficial effect on the general population, amidst the media storm, and the medical storm, that is rising, when people go online to get the facts for themselves and their family, to make informed decisions on how to avoid putting Wuhan Coronavirus 2019-nCoV into their bodies - a pure microbiological harm reduction message.

It's probably safe to assume bleach will kill / inactivate the virus after 10-60 minutes. Yes that long if saturated, cant dry out during the contact time, on non-porous surfaces. Viruses are hard to kill. Pretty rarely thought about by mycologists because most problems are from bacteria and molds. It would be easy to be in a position to spread misinformation when some people come with mushroom sanitization techniques assuming they kill the virus. It also would need to be confirmed bleach even kills it in the 10-60m contact time. It's only statistically likely to be effective because of correlation with other viruses its been shown to kill.

UV lights kill viruses. They make UV lights to be installed in a home furnace to scrub any air passing through the unit. you could also mount them over doorways in enclosed porches where people pass through.

IDK what dosages of what type of UV we are talking about here.
I think I've seen such lights that are pretty reasonable, in modern jet airblower you stick your hands in... but a serious UV-C lamp is rather unhealthy lol for skin and eyes. So not sure what it takes to kill em so fast in the air of a porch where people pass. Inside a ventilation shaft you can install much more powerful UV as nobody is exposed to it.
