Anyone have plans for a diy incubation chamber? Thinking of putting a heat mat in an old refrigerator but hoping someone has done something more effective/elegant. I've moved into an old house and it sits around 50degs and I can't wait until spring to grow because I microdose and my health depends on a steady supply of mush. thanks in advance!

Insulate a closet and put a space heater in it, heat matts generate too much direct heat. You could put a heat matt under a tote of water in the bottom of The closet or use a fish tank heater to make a 5 gal radiant heater or buy an oil radiator if the closet is small and you worry about fire, but make sure to put plenty of bleach in it if you use water.

My fridge chambers
This is what ive been running out in the shed during the winter, heat mat at the bottom of the fridge, dial in the temp control to not ramp up too hot, can also leave the door slightly cracked.
Many people don't like this method, but I ran two of these and they worked for me...

I keep my house around the same as yours is.
15 dollar heater pointed at a cardboard box full of jars.
Aye had some much safer long term solutions.

if your just doing a few jars tyr the ol' aquarium heater/gallon jar tek in a cooler. heat mats are no good! any direct heat is not ideal and will cause sweating and increase chances of your jars going bacterial.

I made one out of 6 pieces of 2x8 1" rigid foam insulation and tuck tape.
It's 2x4x6.

Heat mats can work well for warming an insulated space when coupled with a PID controller, but it's still a bad idea to put anything directly on it. I used one and PID to warm an ice chest with PF jars on a wire rack about 8" above the mat. Worked great and the temp was rock solid. That said, my house spends a lot of time in the low/mid 50s during winter and everything has been growing fine, just much slower. The incubator parts are now maintaining temp on a carboy full of homebrew.

went with your suggestion and am seeing mycelium growth pick up, thank you! I might do a fridge too and then later use it for ferments/meat cures. Thanks again
