This thread is being mirrored throughout comment sections everywhere in regards to a random Ari Shafir tweet. It’s funny to watch all of Ari’s friends do the dance to save fans, black people immediately call him racist, people say fuck Kobe for being a rapist.... just the whole nine. What a world man...

A NYT columnist was put on paid leave for Tweeting a link to an article about the rape. She didn’t even add a comment...not even a sad emoji...just a legitimate news story from The Guardian
Edit: forgot to mention that she’s a rape victim herself.

While they are grossly overpaid in reality -- you get paid for how much money you generate in this country. If a CEO runs a multi-billion dollar company, he/she is going to have an enormous salary. The guy at the mom and pop place down the street may work just as hard but his salary will be a fraction of the multi-billion dollar company. These professional sports leagues generate tons of money. The average NBA team, per Forbes, is worth 1.9 billion dollars. So if my math is correct the NBA is worth some 60 billion dollars. When you're talking figures like that, the employees (the players in this case) are going to get paid a lot.
Do you feel the same way about television salaries? Movie actor/actress salaries?
Charlie Sheen made 2 million an episode on 2 and a Half Men. Ray Romano 1.8 million an episode for Everybody Loves Raymond. Jerry Seinfeld got 1 mil an episode. The cast of Friends a million an episode.
Movies? Keanu Reeves got 156 mil for the Matrix franchise. Robert Downey Jr. has made well over 200 million for the Avengers, Captain America, etc. Arnold got 30 mil for Terminator 3. Johnny Depp got 55 for Pirates of the Caribbean. Harrison Ford 65 million for that recent Indiana Jones. And so on. That's just as absurd as the money pro athletes make IMO. If not more so.
Anyway my point being, you don't get paid for your contributions to society. You get paid for how much your product (or skill) generates.

Hmm so how come CEOs of some non-profits are making 7 figures? As per your logic, they should work for free🤷🏻♂️

Also, check your references. The Matrix example disputes what you’re trying to say. Keanu Reaves famously gave half of his Matrix earnings to the film crew and writers...maybe it was to the supporting actors...,fuck, hold on, I’ll dig it up.
The point is, capitalism and greed don’t HAVE to go hand-in-hand
Edit: I stand corrected- it was MORE than half of his earnings!!
From the wiki:
Quote:
[He] could live on what [he has] already made for the next few centuries." Reeves reportedly gave approximately $80 million of his $114 million earnings from The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions to the special effects and makeup staff.

Well it's not really "my logic". Are you disputing the fact that the vast majority of businesses in this country pay according their most important positions the highest salaries based on their annual profit margin?
It's not my logic, bud. It's how the vast majority of this country operates.

What Reeves does after the fact is up to him. All I was referencing was the money he was paid for the Matrix movies.

Moving the goal posts already? Ok, now it’s just the “majority”...is that like 90% or 60%?
Capitalism doesn’t HAVE to mean people earn more if they make more money for their company. Those who work the hardest can have the recognition, the promotions, etc. while everyone reaps the financial benefits. This is what the Keanu example demonstrates. He gave most of his money to people who earned less, even though neither of the sequels would make any money without him. If Kobe did the same, we wouldn’t be having this exchange.
It’s greedy pieces of shit that are responsible for the wealth gap, not capitalism. <-the point

Moving the goal posts?

You act as if I'm trying to win some sort of debate with you. I'm not. I was just pointing out to someone else that although not fair, that's the reality.
I don't have an exact percentage but it's obviously the extremely dominant majority, and if you don't think that's the case then I don't know what to tell you.
And your example of Keanu Reeves -- I applaud him for that and think that's awesome, but if you think most in the entertainment business will or should do the same that it will never happen in a million years. You obviously know that but if you don't then you're probably living in an alternate reality from mine.

No, I just think humans can evolve a bit in “a million years”. Don’t you?
If one person is capable of giving away $80m because he has another $37m, then they’re all CAPABLE of it. And I do think they SHOULD. That doesn’t mean I’m “living in an alternate reality”.
Someone was the first American to free his slaves in the south. Someone started the first charity. Why you think Keanu’s behavior CANNOT be normalized is beyond me. I think if less people had your defeatist attitude, we’d get wealth redistribution much sooner than a million years.
And you can call it whatever you want but we ARE debating lol.

So basically you want guys like Kobe and Keanu and Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, and whomever else out there who is rich, to break you off some of those funds to take care of you.

Okay. Good luck with that. And keep me posted on how that goes.
Now no offense but

Have a nice evening by the way, feldman.

One of the most screwed-up parts about this is that Kobe but the helicopter in Muse helicopter travel specifically to spend more time with family

That isn't what he said man. He never said he specifically deserves that money from rich people. He used the word wealth distribution and what youve assumed his post to say is not what he was saying. You have a habit of assuming the dumbest possible interpretation of any post that contradicts your belief. Makes you sound like

It would be nice if some of those numbers sitting in a bank computer were transformed into food or possible doctor visits for people who don’t have shit. Some people do have money that they’ll never get to so it’s really no sweat off their back in the grand scheme of things so it would be a nice thing to do..

No, I want society to pressure them into giving away excess wealth. It was once ok to do a host of atrocious shit. Gradually, people get fed up and it becomes taboo to do such shit. I believe this will happen with wealth inequality - anyone who makes more than they can spend will willingly give the rest to the poor and be praised for it. And those who hoard wealth will be grouped with thieves and their business boycotted.
How long until this happens? Maybe a hundred years, maybe a thousand. But I think it’s up to all of us to point out the disparity and change public opinion. Likewise, it’s up to the wealthy (a few at first) to pioneer this by being the first.
P.S. I can never be offended by you, I like your poastses too much. Peace ☮️

I shouldn't have been dismissive like that -- sorry feldman
Look feldman I'm not arguing in favor of the 1% to get richer...I was just trying to point out why pro athletes get paid the way they do. Not that it's fair or right, just that it is the way it is.
Hey I work in a mail room and with bottom tier benefits. Bottom of the barrel pay. The whole nine. I would love a little wealth redistribution my way, believe me.
I like your posts too man so bring it on in and let's hug it out big guy
