Introducing a non-native Psilocybe outdoors?
    #26452986 - 01/26/20 06:17 AM (4 years, 22 days ago)

I'm from Scandinavia, and the (practically) only wild growing native Psilocybe species is the semilanceata. I would very much like to have an outdoor mushroom bed of some cultivable species (azurescens maybe?)but I'm hesitant would that be ecologically unresponsible? Thanks!

I would imagine that location is based on distribution of species based on weather, climate and food source. If it grows there, do it! If it doesn't than it is most likely because of the environmental factors prohibiting that evolution of the species in that region. Mushrooms have been on this planet for millions of years, I don't think you introducing spores to an area that is not native to the species will change that.

I have been wondering the same thing myself. The only thing I have found in my area is gyms, but I would love to grow other woodlovers as well.

But I even feel weird about doing an outdoor gym grow because the spores are from another country.  I would REALLY prefer to use native gym spores, but I have only found them once years ago and didn't collect spores.

Wouldn't that depend on what area of Sweden you are in? It is a long country, and the climate in the south is quite different from the climate in the north.

I'm pretty far south. The official winter hasn't actually even started this year yet, meaning that the mean temperature hasn't fallen below 0 C.
