How are my trays looking?
    #26453107 - 01/26/20 08:03 AM (4 years, 3 days ago)

Hi Everyone,

It's been a year or so since I've grown cubes - The last time I struggled with bacterial contams and have in the meantime eliminated all variables possibly responsible: I have replaced the parts that needs replacing on my AA 1941x; I've gotten new agar, malt, yeast extract, etc; And I also stepped up my lighting, now sporting 4x22w 6500K LED 5 ft. tubes, in total providing 8800 lumens.

I now sterilize my CVG, instead of pasteurizing it, at 17 PSI for 2 hours. I use fine vermiculite, washed coco coir, and add about 2.5% gypsum and well as powdered oyster shell by weight.

The only factor that I haven't changed is the age of my spores; I've isolated the Thai Pink Buffalo cultures three times post-inoculation of the said spores from 2018, my spores have also never been stored in fridge before. I will be doing that from now on though.

I've made up the trays in front of my flow hood, doing some in the handmixing-style, and some in the classic layering-style, all without liners, as I've always found them to be painstaking to add when spawning, and 2nd flush onwards if trays pin other than on the top surface I put it on a rack in the monotub and let it go mental.

Fortunately, after an isolation or two, the mycelium seemed to be running at a nice pace on fresh, home-made MYEA dishes (for mycelium from old spores I think, at least), presenting some rhizomorphic as well as tomentose morphologies.

I usually leave about two cups of subtrate behind, for sprinkling and covering the surface's grains to the best of my abilitiy without going overboard. The trays are now on day 13 since they've been made up, and the temperatures have ranged between 22 and 29 °C during this time.

Another good thing that I have recently noticed is, that, the master dishes originally inoculated with spores about a month ago, started producing little a pin here and there - I could take these and inoculate new dishes to create cultures that should pin nicely, most likely?

Do these look like fine and/or happy trays? I will be consolidating the trays for about 4 days once they look full colonized, and then place them into fruiting conditions.

Thanks in Advance!
