Bumholio said: Hey mang, I've been working with tamps and galindoi since the summer I have about 25 jars going atm. I haven't frooted any yet but I've been spawning the jars once I've harvested them to coir.
I usually get 1-2x the weight of what was in the jar from the tubs so I'd say it's worth harvesting from the jar and then spawning.
I'm going to try and froot these though. Only thing is idk if they will as I've been selecting myc for stones and cloning stones too
I've 3 bags going atm (this is straw & coir) it's about a month and a half now and there's some big looking Bois poking at the sides so I'm hoping by Christmas I'll have a decent wee harvest.
Did you just pasteurize the straw and spawn

Straw and coir? Yes, just the same way you do for cubes. Pour boiling water over and leave it to cool. I might have soaked the straw separately from the coir though I cant actually remember, but either way it's not sterile.

I pasteurize loads of straw for oyster mushrooms but if it produces lots of stones it would be a cheap easy thing to do in old paint tins and buckets as these things apparently grow better in the dark.

Idk if they'd grow off straight straw. I put it in because the first tub I did I put some straw in and it looked like it encouraged the stones to grow around it. You know the way a pearl grows around a grain of sand lol. Idk if that's actually the case but I'll see what this bag is like when I open it. I might do it this weekend actually as I'm not able to the following 2 weekends.

97.34% colonised(already cased with coir which its feed on already)
Ingredients for casing
Mixed together 50:50 about 4 cups here. 1 gram of lime per cup. Mixed into an amount of water under what I think FC will be.
Substrate cased 1/4 inch thick
Place back in my oversizes tub. Still not sure what im doing with this.
Made a LC tonight to get ready for 10 bags of stones to be stored for when I travel.......
Should I store them in the dark is the question?
Update the shoeboxes are looking good and showing signs of stones plus surface is colonised enough to fruit. Ive left two in the comedy mono tub and one in my standard mono tubs to compare notes.
LC is showing signs of life
2 bags of grains, 1 rye and one millet are almost colonised and still unsure whether to put in the dark or not. Best plan is to split them but unfortunately they are not the same grains so wouldn't give a true reading.

As stones grow under the surface, do they push the surface up as I am getting boulders pushing up

Yeah dude, one of mines is. It's never going to fruit there is zero colonization of the casing but a stone is pushing up through it

Yeah they do, sometimes break through the surface as well. Normally after they’ve fruited ime. I’ve never had it between casing and getting fruits.
Edit: also in the tubs that didn’t fruit, there’s been many lol.

Im thinking the culture I have is a stones heavy culture. How long would you leave a culture in bulk for b4 harvesting? They love water so should i regularly mist even though its in a mono tub?

You can leave them for months if they don’t show signs of contams. I’ve had some fairly good size stones from tubs left for 2-3 months.
This was from a cloned stone culture that won’t fruit for shit but does make the odd large stone in the sub if left for a bit.

Holy fuk thats beautiful
I have lumps all over my 3 subs but no fruits.
Once harvested how do you store them?
Ive heavily misted this morning as the sub is shrinking quick. Im thinking of dunking 1 of the subs to see what it does.

That’s probably not a good sign as for getting fruits from them if they are pushing up stones first. I would be wanting to see the first signs of pins within 10 or so days of casing. I don’t even like to see too much myc coming through the casing before the first flush. Sounds like they are kicking off on the stone production though. I mostly dry mine and store them in jars for any I’m not going to use within a couple of weeks. They are literally like stones When dried though, so i grind them to powder in a coffee grinder and make tea.

I cant see there being any chance of fruits with these tubs but what do you reccon I should do? If thety are ok I will just leave them as their seems daily growth. I dont really understand the way stones interact with the substrate and what's the course of action when they poke out like that?

The stones are fluffing over with new mycellium now and im not sure of my next move.
Im thinking harvest, remix sub-minus the casing and let it recolonise?

I’ve never had them go fluffy with myc when they’ve still been in the sub, only after I’ve removed them. Maybe this is a sign that they have stopped getting larger, so could be time to harvest. I’ve never remixed the sub either or can recall seeing anyone else do it. But it must be worth a try, be interesting to see how it goes either way.
