So don't open the PC ?
    #26452418 - 01/25/20 06:56 PM (4 years, 4 days ago)

First I made my own pf tek/brf jars this afternoon. Easy and fun. PC'd them for 60 minutes. Is there any reason I have to wait until I'm ready to inoculate before opening the PC? Really just want some assurance that nothing broke or toppled. Thx.

Well rapid pressure and or temperature change can burst the jars, but as long as the pressure has gone down you should be fine.

Leaving them in the PC until moments before inoculation insures they're as sterile as they're going to get. Once you've ran the pressure cooker, the inside will be sterile until you allow outside air inside from opening the lid.

If you just want to take them out and you have them wrapped in foil, you're good to just take them out and set them aside as the foil will keep any airborne contaminants from landing on the jar and getting to the grains. If you do want to take them out and set them aside, I do recommend at least putting on gloves and wiping your hands down with isopropyl alcohol, but that's honestly being extra cautious.

You also need to allow your jars to cool down after PC'ing anyway because you can't put spores/mycelium in hot grains... pretty much anything above 85 degrees is a no no. If you try to inoculate them before allowing them to cool completely to the touch your spores will be destroyed by the heat.

take them out once pressure drops.  you can leave them in the pc but it isn't doing any good or harm
