Coffee holes for SAB?

I’m making a new bigger size SAB. I have been hearing about the coffee can method to melt the holes through the plastic, and that it comes out perfect. I have an electric stove, not a gas stove, so will this still work? Also, how long and how hot do I need to heat the can? Are you using the bottom of the can to push through the plastic of the ringed top of the can? What’s the best way to do this?

Think about it. Would you really want to melt all that plastic? Use the rim on the top of the can. Why not try it and see if the can gets hot enough. Heat it until its hot enough to melt the plastic. Try, fuck it up, learn, try again. This isn't rocket science. My boss said that to me the other day, really hit home.

I did it with a plumbing torch, there are many ways to heat a can but trial and error you’ll eventually get it hot enough! Just heat and twist and if it doesn’t go through cleanly reheat and twist. Not sure I would put a plastic melted can back on an electric stove element. But if you do you can always burn it off.

I just made a SAB using a coffee can on an electric stove and I will recommend you use TWO coffee cans because when you reheat one after making the first hole, some excess plastic will burn off and make your house/kitchen stink for hours.
Here's how I create the holes: - Put your coffee can open side down directly on the heating element (DO NOT put aluminum foil under the can as it can catch fire)! - Put on kitchen oven gloves to protect your skin from the heat. - Once hot, pickup the can and push the open end through the plastic where you want the hole. The plastic disc will melt into the rim of the can and will come out when you remove the can. - Throw away the first can and repeat with fresh can.

Just let the can cool back down, or use cold water to quickly cool it. Any plastic residue stuck to the can will solidify and can be easy peeled off the can. Then you can reheat without worrying about burning plastic or messing up your stove top.

How long do you leave it to heat for and know it's hot enough?

If it burns your hands its probably hot enough... Don't go testing it on the plastic now
