Completely Blue Stems!
    #2644944 - 05/06/04 12:33 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I've got a bulk grow and before casing some shrooms were growing out of the straw. I cased anyway, covering up the shrooms because I knew they'd just grow through the casing. And they did. However, their stems are completely blue. I'm not talking about streaks of blue on white, but solid blue. Other than that they are big, proud specimens that hint at a great lineage and further greatness to come.

My thoughts as to why this happened are that they probably got misted with peroxide and water, or isopropyl and water, since I had to clean the container somewhat before casing and those shrooms weren't supposed to be there. I'm not sure. But this is heavy bruising. I'll pick them and scan it into my computer in the next couple of days.

That sounds more like a humidity problem. From my experience heavy misting with peroxide etc.. causes more aborts than blueing in stems. I could be wrong. Also, was there any slight cracking along the stems?

No cracking... but I think I just remembered why this happened. When I cased, I packed the mix over the straw, which I know you aren't supposed to do but I did it anyway (note to self: don't prepare casings while stoned). This surely would cause the bruising. They look really cool, though, and when I harvest them I'll post pics.
