A few beginner questions, and does this look like mold?
    #26448982 - 01/23/20 08:47 PM (4 years, 24 days ago)

Hello  First time farmer here. I think I made a few mistakes that have caused the mushrooms to fruit all over the sides of my grow bags. A few questions to anyone wiling to help me out..

1- When fruiting, is it best to remove and dehydrate each mushroom when it is ready? Or is it better to remove them all at once?

2- To fruit is it best to open the mag and expose to oxygen periodically? (everything in these pics has happened in the contained bag and I have not opened it yet)

3- Is the white growth in the photos around the base of the mushrooms mold or mycelium? Also, I am assuming the blue bruising is from contact with the bag?

Thank you !

1. In this case, I think harvesting as they get ready would be best.. sometimes I leave the bigger ones until spores drop if it's part of a cluster and I want the ones smaller ones to catch up.. if I can pick em without disturbing the rest I usually get em right as the beil breaks.

2. Opening the bag every so often shouldn't be a problem if the grains are completely colonized.. that bag looks a bit weird to me.. but I never done bags at all.. usually don't see people opening them until harvest time tho.. I don't really see any fuzzy feet in your pics..

3.To my rookie eye, the white growth at the based off the mush looks like myc trying to slowly grow back over the base of the mush. The bruising kinda looks like from maybe moving the bag or touching it a bit..

Hey ablackmon I'm not a frequent user of bags, but in my experience mycelium begins to produce mushrooms either after it has fully colonized and is in optimal conditions or as a last ditch effort to multiply when in subprime conditions or met with a contaminate. Judging from your pictures I would guess your bags are slightly bacterial but I cant be sure so I would suggest you start over using agar to clean your spores if you haven't already. That being said my first few grows showed early contamination but still yielded more then enough to keep me happy. Good luck!!

Was this a kit? I think you should ditch the bag and mix that together in a shoebox. Looks like there's way to much coir on top for it to ever fruit from the top. You can harvest the fruits that are there already to. Heres a link to shoeboxes https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24038695

:whathesaid: If this was a kit then it looked like you didnt mix the grain(on the bottom) with the coir(on the top) after the grain colonized so like herbnmyco you should just dump and mix in a shoebox(tray) after harvesting.

That is exactly right, It was a kit and I failed to mix the grain and the coir. Does it look like there is bacteria to you guys? I dont think it is contaminated but want to be sure...

Im gonna go a different direction. I think you should open the bag and fruit these just the way they are. Do not throw out anything because a picture on the internet suggested you might have  a contaminated grow.

Looks fine, you''re just doing something most people are not familiar with. I agree that you were probably suppose to mix the coir on top with the spawn at the bottom of the bag, but oh well.

Best thing to do is open the top of the bag to allow fresh air to get in. At this point there is no worry about contamination because fruiting is done in open air. There is a pretty good chance your coir will start to dry over the next few days and the mycelium will move into it. It looks to wet at this moment.

Move to some natural indirect light and open the top and wait. I would not try and harvest until you have mushrooms at the top of the bag.
