First time grower

I’m at like day 57 of my first grow. These pics were taken a few days ago. I’m not sure if my jars stalled or if there’s something else going on. I bought a Midwest grow kit and had them in an incubator Between 82-86 degrees. I chose the substrate jars on The Midwest grow kit to grow out of. They are Half pint jars with a brown rice flour combination and vermiculite at the top. I had Cambodian spores and it said they liked the heat So I kept them in that range. Also the humidity has been at 40% almost the entire time. I do not have them at my place. I already threw out one jar because of signs of contamination. I don’t really know where to go from here.

The pictures are of 2 different jars. The first two pictures are two sides of the first jar. The third and fourth picture are of the second jar. And I’m not really sure how to upload pics yet but I will figure it out !

What’s the problem?
They look like they’ve been ready, pretty sure there’s some knots in there.
The good thing now is they should fruit quickly once you take them out, and maybe be more potent from the extra consolidation time.

The pictures I’ve seen of when they are done are usually covered full white. That’s good news for me. I always thought that top layer of vermiculite would Be covered in white also. The next thing I was going to do was birth and dunk them for 23 hours. Is that what I should do ? Or should I put them in the mono tub like I was going to Do a bulk grow? I have 11 half pint jars and 5lbs of a bulk casing mix from Midwest. I was going to do a bulk grow but now I think the ratio might be off Since I threw away one half pint jar. Like I said I bought a kit and in the kit came perlite But I wanted to do a bulk grow.

No the verm won’t go white.
One jar won’t make a difference, personally I hated doing cakes and think bulk is the easiest best way to go, but some people like them.
If you have shoeboxes you could break up 3-6 jars for each one. If you go bulk definitely put like 1/3 inch or so top layer on after mixing everything up. That’ll give you a lot more leeway with surface conditions.

Its time to birth them, like a week ago. Hopefully u have a SGFC or Humidity Chamber built already.

The kit doubles as a humidity chamber. I’m not sure how to explain it but I know what you meant. So I should take them out and put them in water for 18-23 hours or not ? I’ve read that you should dunk them. But I’ve also read it’s optional. I do know to break them up and mix them Into the bulk casing.
I’m very anxious now to get to them tomorrow. Thank you for your responses so far.

Yes I would dunk them if you are planning on fruiting them as jars. I am not sure if dunking is a good or bad idea if going to shoe box. I imagine all of the moisture you would want in the bulk casing material is there. If they have had a chance to consolidate in the jar you might be better off dunking and rolling and going to birth in a SGFC.

I would only dunk them if you’re keeping them as cakes, but it won’t hurt either way. People used to soak their grainspawn before going to bulk.

I totally forgot about soaking grain spawn. Was it spirit ball that started experiment ing with it?

Idk man that’s 17 days since spawn?
How thick are your casing/top layer?
Hopefully it’s knotted up right under the surface otherwise something might be wrong.
Can you see knots on the sides of the tub?

Should be 2-3 inches on top. I’m going to look for knotting on the sides today.

2-3 inches total or you mixed the spawn in and then put another 2-3 on top of that?

I mixed the spawn in and added a layer on top of 2-3 inches

Oh ok that could be why.
Normally you want to mix the spawn and coir and then add maybe 1/3-1/2 inch on top.
It’ll be fine just take a little longer to hit the surface.

It looks really wet I’d stop misting for a few days at least.
I did the same thing my first few grows, they need way less water than you’d think, and usually once enough myc breaks the surface it’ll bead up on its own and a lot of the time the beads are so small you can barely tell they’re there without a flashlight.
I just took this with the flash on, haven’t misted it at all yet. But look at the color/wetness of the coir and how the water beads look.

So in general Take the tub out of the incubator, I don't know why I didn't see that a while ago. That tub will make its own heat and if your room temp is 70-75 they do not need any added heat. Also do what AKA said and let it dry out because it looks super wet.
I have found with all things in this hobby, less is more. Less water for BRF, Less water for grain prep, less water for Bulk subs.

The room it’s in is like 50-55 degrees F. That’s why I had it in an incubator because I was afraid it was to cold. I’ll move it today and try to figure something out. Thanks for the swift replies

Just wrap some towels around the outside of the base. The substrate will make its own heat unless its like 40 in your house. I think your biggest problem is the Inncubator. At least turn it down to 60F 4

I wish I was making this up. I moved them to another place. The roof caught on fire And I have to put the kit in the back of my car for the night. It’s like 40 out there. I wrapped it with what I had that didn’t smell like smoke. Wondering and hoping it’s okay

Should be ok just going to slow things down. People put colonized jars etc in the fridge to slow the growth until they have time to get to them.
