5.9%. Just got a car actually, 2016, less than 18,000 miles, one owner, super clean carfax, regular maintenance. (my credit score is an "A" buyer though, 820)

What’s your monthly payment?

Also 5.9 still seems kind of meh.

I don't understand why it's so culturally normal to have a 'car payment' over there. Does nobody ever buy a car outright?

Personally, although I'd spend £30k on a motorbike, I never spend more than £1k on a car. That's my cutoff. The last one cost £750 five years ago and is still running strong (just past its test for the 22nd year and went straight through) and the one before that cost £270 and was great for about four years.

I know you aint exactly flush right now Ra, why not just buy a used Honda? I can help you out with the most reliable ones.

Good advice JSB. I paid off my school loan and a CC, and have never had a newer or nicer car. I'll pay it off early though. School loan and a CC was 500 total, so I just switched it to that car. I haven't had a car payment ever really, I always bought my moms old car, or from a person with cash. Never bought from a car lot before now.

I think you were pretty spot on with it being cultural. Outside of major cities, cars are the norm, dare I say a necessity. Given the cost, most people don't buy outright, though some do.

I lease my cars, so I pay like $300/month.

I need decent vehicles to help everyone else in my life, or I would just drive a banger.

One of my cars has issues and needs replacing. I've done the maths and if I want to keep my repayments to $100 a week I'm gonna have to take a %7 interest rate on a $15k loan. Could get a better rate on a new car, but I'm not about to drop $30k on wheels. Spewing that I even have to spend that, would much rather spend that money on my house.

I had bad credit and got my car financed. 190 every two weeks, plus 48 every two weeks for their insurance coverage (doesn't include liability). My APR is super high though. I plan to get it refinanced once I get my credit up a little bit.

It's a really nice 2010 mustang.

I’ve bought two vehicles outright in my life but these days I’ve fallen on tough times financially and can’t seem to save over a grand at any one time.

I just want my wife to be able to get to work and back safely tbh

Thanks for the deets

Last question

How many months

450 could be doable $225 apiece with my wife

I like my job (which for me is unbelievable) but I might have to start applying for better salary shit

Not that I’m assuming I can even get one but I hate to even try now that I finally have a job that doesn’t make me want to kill myself.

TBH, if I needed to get something decent at this point (as I might do at some point in America) I would do what badchad does and lease. Not sure if there's quite the same market for leasing as there is in the states though?

Just bought a newer (2017) car a few months ago for 3.9% APR. It's the first car I've ever bought on credit though. Every vehicle I've owned previously has been a cash purchase. If you can save $4-5K up you can get a decent, working vehicle and not worry about payments and can pay a lot less on insurance.

Leasing isn't the most cost effective option IMO, but I'm well-aware I'm paying for the convenience.  It's a cheap monthly payment, I get a new car with updated features every three years, and frankly, I don't really have to take care of a leased car since I know I'll have it short term and its going back.  Also, its always under warranty, so I know I won't get any unplanned charges.

Yeah. I think its about the same as buying new, you pay a premium for that as well.  Regardless of buying new or used, I think buying only beats leasing if you really drive the car into the ground and have it 8-10+ years.

I'm guessing that there'd be many more competitive options over there. The maths didn't add up for me to lease here, even with pre-tax offset benefits.

There's basically three groups of people (besides the super wealthy who can afford to buy Ferraris and shit outright anyways) 1. People well off enough to afford brand new cars 2. People who can afford used, but more recent cars 3. People who can afford cash cars. 1 and 2 usually don't have enough money laying around to buy the car outright.

My reason for wanting a car I had to put on payments? All I've ever had were beaters and cash cars. All well over 10 years old when I got them. There is constantly something breaking or something that needs to be fixed no matter how well you inspect it and determine it to be in good working order. I no longer have friends and family to rely on and I'm on a tight budget. I can't afford to have a car that's going to be in a constant state of repair. My car payment is about 380 a month, and a 2k down payment. My Sonata was a little over 5k cash and it seems like I had to put at least 100-200 a month into repairs and maintenance and shit. Shit, to get the AC fixed would've cost almost 1k and I live in Texas. AC is so important in a vehicle here, pretty much every Craigslist ad for a car touts it's coldness.

I could have gotten something a little cheaper, but since I'm going to be paying on something for years, I decided I might as well get something I actually WANT to drive for once. My car is your motorcycle. You have fun on your bike right? Well I have a lot of fun in my car.

Leasing is too low rent. I rent a truck from a car rental place every month and turn it in when it needs new tires or I smash it up.

$1500/mo

LOL.

Yeah I currently rent. Well, I don't, my company does. But I see the receipt and it's over $2k every six weeks.

Fucking obscene.

Oh I get it. If I even knew where I lived/am gonna put roots down, then ANY vehicle I buy I will feel somewhat passioate about.

Exactly the same for me. Also what you say about Texas and needing a good AC (I'm from FT WT, where you  at) in a car is so very true. There was many cars I had with no AC and I had to go to work sweating my fucking ass off, and I waited tables, uuuuggghh!

@FSR:
I think it's for 6 years, but I'll try to pay it off in 2-4 years. It is the nicest car I've ever had and I plan on driving it for at least 6-10 years. It's a Buick.

Never get a loan from a car dealership.

Join a credit union, you can get car loans for like 2.5% interest.

Always buy used cars, but buy them from a factory dealer. They tend to have much better warranties, which can greatly reduce your expense if they break down. My car for example got $4k in repairs that were absolutely free about 6 months after I purchased it.

I'm in Houston. Right now it's not a big deal but damn when it starts getting hot.. a 5 minute drive to the store meant I'd be drenched in sweat by the time I got there.

My mustang's ac is ridiculously cold. I can't even run it at max.

With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way.
I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today.
Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear.
I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear.

With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

I would never buy a car on credit so I only ever own old crappy cars

Our commercial guy leases a Tesla Model S for €1300 a month

Never get a loan from a car dealership.

Join a credit union, you can get car loans for like 2.5% interest.

Always buy used cars, but buy them from a factory dealer. They tend to have much better warranties, which can greatly reduce your expense if they break down. My car for example got $4k in repairs that were absolutely free about 6 months after I purchased it.

Thanks for the advice

You know how shit you are, you just don't give a fuck for precisely that reason.

I disendorse you.[/quote]

Certified pre owned has the factory warranty as well, but not that interest rate, solid advice there.

I'm at 4.4% on the used car I got this last August.
