Perlite in a monotub to fruit a tray?

Hey, will this work? I have a pretty decent sized baking tray with a colonized substrate in it. I was wondering if I could fruit it inside of an unmodified tub (bod's upside down lid method). The tray maybe takes up 60% maybe more of the bin so would putting a little layer of perlite underneath the tray keep the humidity levels up? cheers

I think you won't have enough evaporation going on. You should use a SGFC that pulls air through the damp Perlite and pushes it out through the holes on top.

Put the trays in a shotgun fruiting chamber/terrarium that has a bunch of perlite at the bottom.

Yeah u can use a monotubs u just may have to mist a bit more

He has to mist more, when he adds Perlite? I thought the Perlite would keep moisture up so he'd have to mist less...(compared to just an unmodified mono). Or is this because of less substrate / moisture retention?

but the dynamics of a monotubs are built for a substrate that puts off heat so it pulls air out the bottom holes unlike a sgfc where your air comes from underneath and through the perlite so you don't get as much evaporation in a mono

Right, but OP was talking about an unmodified tub (following BODs unmodified tub TEK). Sorry, I know monotub means the one with the holes and stuff I just call them both mono, because I never used anything but the unmodified. (and SGFCs)

yes same thing, less air moving and coming through the top William less evaporation off the perlite which tends to lead to more misting and by more I mean instead of twice a day you may need to mist thrice.

Ok here is my problem with that Cron... You said Thrice, like Stewie would have instead of 3 times a day....

Ah ok, now I get it. Makes sense of course.
When I do my unmodified monos, I mix the sub to field capacity, put into fruiting and never mist it until the first harvest. But with a tray I guess you have different conditions (less substrate, more (almost still) air in the tub...)

Fresh air exchange good. Still air bad.
With a SGFC your substrate is much smaller and your heat output of your substrate is smaller. With a Monotub your substrate is larger and will generate more heat so it uses convection to pull the air through the top and out the bottom holes.
in your set up if you fruit in an unmodified mono you will need to add more misting and fanning because your substrate will be trapped and it will generate heat in an isolated area.
