Plastic lids require a gasket ?

Have always used the metal lids and rings with a dual purpose polyfill fae/up
Wanting to go to plastic lids.
I'm wondering do the plastic lids require a full 70mm sfd or a gasket or will the lid tightened down be enough?
Im under the assumption u can tap holes in the plastic lid, add rtv for an UP and cut a 70mm into a small circle and someone over a 1" hole?
Just worried about the ring/thread being sufficient on plastic?

They're good, plenty of us use them with no gasket. Some people reported warping but the vast majority have no issues. Don't tighten them with a hulk grip while they're still really hot and you'll be good.
I tried a metal lid again a few weeks ago (1 jar out of a 10 jar PC run) and I am never ever doing it again. Granted it was a bit rusty but man, what a struggle. Plastic lids are great.

Sure. I don't measure how much i loosen them. Just slightly backed off. I suppose i did them a quarter turn a few hundred times and then it just became muscle memory.
I do wrap mine with cling wrap after noccing up but it isn't needed. I'm just anal and it costs next to nothing and only takes a second so, why not? It's just that much safer

After loading them with grains, I tighten them good but not too tight to break or warp. I then mark a line on the lid and jar, loosen about .5in.
After PC be very careful because they'll be looser than when you put them in because of expansion. Find the lines and align the lid and jar and leave them alone for a bit until they cool. If you do want to shake before cooling tighten them til you feel resistance, shake, then loosen back to the lines. When cool they should be just as tight as they need to be without damaging the lids.
Sometimes the lines disappear after PC but you can usually make out where they were.
Didn't think of the cling wrap but since reading that Mite infestation thread, every extra layer will help.

Ok, good tips my dudes.
Thanks
I ordered 29mm and 70mm sfd and nice looking pp5 lids, rtv and stuff for lc.
Been using polyfill tops for so long but excited to do something different for a change.
